Elusa

Kenefick Ranch Vineyard Cabernet Franc 2015

Big and bold nose shows cedar and espresso and sweet notes of blackberry, violets and cassis. Full bodied and full of muscles. Dark chocolate with espresso aspirations, black cherry and blackberry reductions, black currant and blacker tobacco. Toffee and cedar explode and melt into a lingering, unctuous chocolate ganache.

Larkmead Vineyards

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Dense red currant is ‘wrassled’ down by fennel aromas, mint and black cherry with strawberry and blackberry hidden beneath its thick canopy of fern and forrest; including moss and mushroom. Actually amazing! Not going to ever guess that this herbaceous monster with rim to rim colt density is an 11 yr old Calistoga! Meaty notes of grill and marinated fungi. Celeriac root, fennel and licorice notes define this angel with a minty coolness persisting! Blackberry and black cherry emerge in the finale to shine like young wine despite the years!#Larkmead #2007cab #Calistoga #Napa #napacab — 6 years ago

Chateau Montelena

Calistoga Cabernet Sauvignon 2012

A surprised and welcomed pour from a close friend. Chateau Montelena was the first Napa winery I ever visited back in 2014, located up in Calistoga at the north end of Napa Valley. Montelena, along with Chalone, have been immortalized by their involvement in the 1975 Judgement of Paris, effectively opening the world's eyes up to California wine. Great estate, great wines, period. ~$55 | #chateaumontelena #cabernetsauvignon #calistoga

On the eyes: Clear, deep purplish garnet, med stain, med tears, no gas/floc.

On the nose: Plum, black currents, floral and slightly herbaceous, pressed meats, slate, med alcohol.

On the tongue: med alcohol, med acid, med tannins that are still stiff. Juicy and round, violets, plums, dark unripe berries, a bit earthy and clean finish. Drinks like any fine Bordeaux, but could use a few more years to open up those tannins.

Very impressive for new world #viognier Great aromatics with delicious ripe melon and citrus. Surprising underlying acidity that balances the obnoxiously high abv. #araujo #eiselevineyard #napavalley #calistoga — 8 years ago
