WNH event number 3...new world Pinot. Such a treat to experience the many different variations of Pinot!
To end the night, why not bring out an insane chard? Goodness. This is powerful and young. Lemon cream, toasted cashews, and meringue on the nose. The palate is rich and bold, with sharp acidity. Marzipan and nutmeg on the finish. Didn’t see who brought this, so let me know who brought this, guys! — 6 years ago
I couldn't help but pit this against my recent tastings of Chateau Montelena's 2013. Stylistically, they are worlds apart. The Montelena is less imposing, and even coy by comparison, but it's piercing acidity shocks the palate, firing the flavors everywhere, but with a linear feel.
The Beringer begins with rich aromatics of tropical fruit, coconut, cream brûlée, and meringue, with a dash of dill. Everything translates through to the palate, which flaunts its round figure. The lack of acidity releases the wine on the palate to pursue its less-than-subtle seduction. I will admit, I was no match for this temptress Chardonnay. That said, by comparison to the Montelena, the Beringer feels like it has been cosmetically enhanced. Fortunately, it was in just the right places. — 7 years ago

Light golden color, nose with cream and baking spices, fresh apple pie. Palate has gold apple, green melon, vanilla, little bit of oak spice. Little bit rich (partial malo) but not overwhelming. Medium acids. round finish. has potential many more years of maturation. #latour #grandcru #cortoncharlemagne — 8 years ago

Ok. Now where talking. Fresh mountain cream and caramel. Camomille, perfectly rounded. — 11 years ago
Toasty, custard, smoked pear, sugared grapefruit, green apple skin, accented by a string of minerality. This jumps out of the glass. Mouthcoating with rich, layered green apple, pear, and lime zest flavors. Asian spices pop with time. Balance is impeccable. Acid is still impressive, with length and evolution to finish. Wow! Paired with smoked salmon over a cream based pasta. — 4 years ago

Pure as freshly fallen snow. Apricot preserves, orange cream, and honeysuckle give way to almond extract and a touch of lemon zest. Long, mellow finish. — 7 years ago
This vintage shows more oak than in prior vintages. Big, bold, version of California chardonnay. Missing the elegance of last year. Still enjoyable. Just me splitting hairs. — 8 years ago

These brutal TX summers can make it difficult to crave heavy meals, so some sort of grazing board with lots of options is definitely ideal.
A quick note: Even for me, opening Aubert this young is usually something I don’t even consider (aside from their Hudson). After enjoying some other 2017s that someone opened earlier this week, I was surprised at how open they were. I believe the vintage gives these wines more opulent and early enjoyment than normal.
As always, I believe this to be Aubert’s most acid driven wine. Almost spritz like. Aromatically it is a mix of bright citrus, honeysuckle, honey roasted cashews and lemon confit. On the palate, the entry shows strong acidity before it fades away. Lemon cream, ginger, copious amounts of tropical fruit and a somewhat surprising kiss of mineral/limestone. Aubert’s entire lineup is among the best, but this is normally towards the back of the pack for my taste profile (which means it’s still among the best Cali chards, in my opinion). — 4 years ago
