So delish! Beautiful and holding strong with notes of blackberry, black currant, clove, star anise, licorice, dried orange peel, black olive, potpourri, tobacco, leather, earth, cured meat, pencil shavings, graphite, spice box, forest floor. Complex and balanced with a long, elegant finish. — 10 months ago

The 2004 Léoville-Poyferré has a light and airy bouquet with blackberry, antique bureau, forest floor and light fungal aromas. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly dry tannins, a little austere but balanced, though I notice some attenuation and bitterness towards the finish. So-so for this estate. Tasted at the Léoville-Poyferré vertical at the château with Sara Lecompte Cuvelier. (Neal Martin, Vinous, September 2022)

The famed #lopezdeheredia - Their 2008 release year matched the year we got married so we ordered this at a nice restaurant on our 13th anniversary. I asked the sommelier to cool it in an ice bucket a bit and so it took some time to open up in the glass. One of the best old school #rioja - subtle dark fruit, forest floor and distinct mushroom and truffle aromas on the nose. The biggest surprise for me on the palate was the incredible freshness and bracing acidity. Forest floor, leather and dark fruit as the backup chorus. This is still such a young wine. Delicious and versatile pairing wine - worked so well with a brined chicken breast with a puff pastry side stuffed with morel mushroom and lobster. — 4 years ago
Drunk w Christmas Eve dinner 2020 of roasted eye of round, porcini gravy, mash etc.
Medium plus ruby. Forest-y aromas of almond tinged cherry, violets. Wife claims noticable Am oak, but I don't really feel it here (bottle age?) Acidity is high. This feels like it could easily go another 20 years. — 5 years ago
Always great. You can feel the wood and the freshness in this wine. — 7 years ago
1 hour decant(lots chunky/fine sediment). A gorgeous inky purplish garnet color. On the nose: dark fruit, forest floor, smoked meat, floral, cigar wrapper, pencil lead. Taste: smooth, rich, creamy mouthcoating wine with blackberry/dark cherry, dark chocolate, earth, tobacco, baking spice, and a cedar/graphite medium plus finish with some slight dusty tannins. Had this 2 years ago, and it's improved. In the beginning of its drink window at 18 years? Wow — 8 months ago

Always amazing.
N: Tar, Cherries, smoky rubber, forest, balsam, chocolate , dirt, spice( cinnamon).
P: Vegetal wrapped in luscious roundness, if I were schooled in burgs, I’m sure I could find comparable.
Such a delightful mouthfeel, lush, acidic, tannic all in harmony. Resinous pine.
One of the very faves.
We once counted the fonts on a LdH bottle, got 12…any significance? — 3 years ago
From magnum, the wine offers an explosion of black fruit with a lovely violet, black cherry and cassis foundation. There is a hint of bay leaf and emerging tertiary notes of leather, forest floor and cigar box. Cedar emerges on a long finish. Very elegant, silky Tannins and beautiful weight in the mouth. Truly elegant with a textbook balance of grit and earthy character. Gorgeous now and for another decade at least. — 3 years ago

1 hour decant(some chunky/fine sediment). A splendid dark medium garnet with little bricking. On the nose: expressive perfumed nose with dark plum/cherry, currants, milk chocolate, baking spice, floral, wet forest floor, touch of roasted meat. Taste: silky, balanced, elegant wine that is singing at 20 years with dried red fruit, earth, chocolate, cedar, minerals, saline, and a spiced-tobacco-green bell pepper long finish. YUM! — 7 months ago

Oh boy…is this real life? A DRC from back in the days when Lalou was involved in the process. Enjoyed out of the Baccarat DRC glass which is hilarious to behold but I’ll be damned if wasn’t a pretty effective glass. The 1988 Richebourg pours a deep ruby color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with light staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with heady notes of ripe and slightly desiccated red and black fruits: strawberry, spiced meat, red flowers, forest floor, and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long with lovely, savory minerals. There is so much density. Honestly, this still needs a ton of air. It’s remarkable how youthful it’s showing. Drink now with loads of patience and through 2038. Bottle No. 4044. — 8 months ago
Dark ruby coloration with no translucency. On the nose, strong cocoa powder, chocolate, espresso, cherry liquor, blueberry, currants, smokiness, and vanilla. On the palate, full bodied and very soft. Florals, black currant, blackberry, blueberry, anise, cocoa powder, dark chocolate, espresso, forest floor, minerals and a long, long finish. This wine has aged exceptionally well while maintaining good structure. — 3 years ago

+2 hour decant(decent chunky/fine sediment). A prodigious purplish dark ruby red color. On the nose: intoxicating nose of dark fruit, musty forest floor, cigar wrapper, smoke, worn leather. Taste: Wow! Juicy, structured, layered, silky, mouthcoating wine with plum, blackberry, vanilla oak, cocoa, earth, and a baking spiced iron dark chocolate long finish with a slight tannic kick. YUM! A wonderful wine early in its drinking window. — 6 months ago
