Château Bel Air-Marquis d'Aligre

Margaux Red Bordeaux Blend 2011

Lyle Fass
9.6

This is drinking so well. Nose of cassis, redcurrant, classic Margaux flowers, green peppercorn (Carmenere), crazy florals, just a masterful nose. Leather and glorious spice. Palate is wide and sleek, elegant and decadent than sharply concentrated and sweet. The tannins are sweet and aggressive but the fruit is extraordinary and in a few hours I see this being even more supple. Fantastic. — 18 days ago

Château Léoville-Las Cases

Le Petit Lion de Marquis de Las Cases Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

Blend of 46% Cabernet Sauvignon (young vines), 43% Merlot (older vines) and 11% Cabernet Franc, aged in 30% new French oak, deep Ruby red color, purple edges, with aromas of ripe dark fruits, spice and herbs. On the palate flavors of blackberry, plum, spice and cinnamon. Fine tannins, slightly chewy, long finish ending with fruit, spice and a touch of earthy mineral notes. — a month ago

Château Léoville-Las Cases

Grand Vin de Leoville du Marquis de las Cases Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2009

2 hour decant. A marvelous medium garnet color (decent fine sediment). On the nose: dark berries, cassis, forest floor, sandalwood, pencil shavings, chocolate, and cigar box. Taste: layered, balanced, still young wine with dark cherry/plum, cedar, dark chocolate, charcoal, and a lingering tobacco/leather finish. YUM! No hurry, a long distance Las Cases. — 14 days ago

3-D Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir 2021

Beautiful nose on this, remembering why I bought this while in the tasting room in Sta. Rita Hills (nice little spot in Los Olivos, highly recommend). Med+ intensity on the nose with bright cherry and strawberry. A bit of cedar/vanilla, but not much. Floral notes that almost turn to candy or runts. Nice on the palate too with a big pop of red fruit, med+ acidity and nice fine, integrated tannins. Long finish that sort of turns from sweet to tart cherry. Just a really nice wine. I scored a 93 but guessing this will improve and become a bit more elegant with a few more years. — 2 months ago

Champans Volnay Pinot Noir 2009

At Pressoir NYC burgh tasting - this 2009 from the magnum was best of the Volnays and best of the tasting overall - deep brooding structured fruit, stellar - and notably better than the 2008 — a month ago

Château Calon-Ségur

Le Marquis Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

Dark rubi robe, nose of blackcurrant, cedar-wood, exotic spices. Very very merlot, ripe but not over, its a high octane wine that shows a bit of its 15 degrees on the finish. Not our favorite vintage but the wine is super well done and might benefit from a few more years on bottle. — 3 months ago
