Finally on the balcony...
I know I love this wine, so I should exercise patience. On open, it's crystal clean, ruby to pink to clear rim. Nose is evolving from initial raspberry and vanilla to mild petroleum and veggies. What I need patience with is the middle and end. Quite tart and the pucker carries through to the finish. Will update...

Medium deep ruby , garnet rim . Quite closed at first , touch of spice , wood smoke , grafite , coffee, cocoa . Touches of blackberry , cassis , violet . On the palate quite rich and young still , lots of tannin , balanced alcohol and fresh acidity . Cassis , tobacco , blackberry . Mineral , tobacco tinged finish of excellent length . From 30-year old vines. 80% Tempranillo and 20% Garnacha (no ‘11 made b/c Garnacha wasn’t great). Tempranillo spent 36 months on 4-year old American oak, Garnacha spent 30 months on 2-year old American oak. Ruby with nose of red fruit, cedar and floral citrus notes. On the palate flavors of cherry, currant and orange peel with vanilla, cacao and tobacco notes. Well developed, fine tannins, long finish ending with earthy mineral flavor. Very Nice! — 4 years ago

My first first-growth. Wow, drinking very nicely. Let it breathe for 2.5 hours, and it still showed some tannins. Amazingly balanced and elegant. How is a 22 year old wine still so fresh, so vibrant, so alive, with both fruit and tannins?? This could lay down for another 10, 20 or 50 years. Amazing. — 7 years ago
First night open: 20 year old vintage— chocolate on the nose with a stone fruit finish. Tasted clean and complex with an almost immediate light evaporation in your mouth leaving you with the feeling of bubbles dissolving. Delicious. — 8 months ago
Da bomb, for sherry lovers: Palo Cortado versión. A shape shifter on the palate & ringing on the higher registers, this Hidalgo checks all the boxes for me, which includes a lightness & freshness heaven made for most food. Burnt pine cone & toffee bits, a subtle mushroom thing (oyster?), & a rather trim beef bouillon broth lurking on the back end. That may all be bs but it’s a wine that inspires….. — 3 years ago

70% Tempornilla. 20% Garnacha and the remainder of 2 grapes with which I am not familiar. Stored in used American oak barrels for 5+ years according to WA. A beautiful blend from great winemaker. Thank you Morell Wine for the heads up — 6 years ago

Earthy and not giving away much initially, was worried after 20 mins. By 30 it blossomed, full on cassis and vanilla tannins, undergrowth. Dark red fruit, Rutherford dust. Notwithstanding a Bordeaux vibe there was no mistaking this for anything but a high-end Napa cab. Awesome one at that. I wouldn’t wait much longer… — 6 months ago
