It is really no surprise that this 05 is incredible and yet still extremely youthful. This 05 will out live almost anyone 50 years old. It is good for another 45 years.
I had their 16 La Dame last weekend & commented it should not be opened for another 10 years.
The core on the nose is dark velvet black currants. There’s a bit of melted dark chocolate-mousse. Ripe but subtle blackberries, black raspberries, black plum-plum pudding, very dark cherries, some mulberries, mocha powder, dark, rich earth, dry river stone, limestone, anise, mix of dry/fresh herbs, fine, undertone of baking spices, moist grey clay, slightly dry tobacco, sandalwood, mild, elegant spice, just the slightest hint of mint, very, slightly candied, dark, withering flowers & red roses.
The palate is rich, round with velvety M+ tannins. The core is dark fruits blended in melted dark-mocha chocolate. Blackberries, black raspberries, both plums w/ heavy skin, dark cherries, poached to slightly baked strawberries & raspberries over the top. Dry bay leaf-sage, moist clay, rich, dark, turned earth, dry river stone, limestone powder, stem inclusion, red licorice/cola, anise to black licorice candy, sandalwood to soft cedar, slightly moist tobacco, used leather, mild, dark spice, a touch & just a touch of tomato leaf, hints of cardamom, dark/red withering flowers with just a touch of violets, perfect acidity and a very well knitted, tensioned, balanced, structured, elegantly polished finish that last two-minutes and lands on nice earthiness & softly muddled spice.
Paired w/ their bone-in Ribeye. Best steakhouse steak that I’ve had out and not made by friends and or myself. Rich fat, tender and nice flavor. Lacks a bit of char and Napa Valley Rub from wholespice.com.
Open in another 15-20 years.
A real shot at a 💯 in another 15-20+.

️ ✔️Rioja, Spain

Medium deep ruby core , medium wide ruby garnet rim . Quite slow and fat tears. Quite exotic nose , slightly high toned, lots of ripe spicy blackcurrant , dark cherry , blackberry and underneath a grafite and earthy note , marine scents also . On the palate round, ripe and sweet dark fruits, blackcurrant , blackberry and dark cherry , touches of grafite and cigar box. Surprisingly good , even refreshing acidity , ripe ample tannins; there is great intensity here. Balanced alcohol even though it is quite decadent and rich, lots of glycerin . Very long and succulent but balanced finish with touches of mineral and tobacco. The plumpness and exoticism does come across as pretty atypical for Latour , though it is a real success for the vintage and an undeniably enjoyable wine. Drinking ok now , with a decant of an hour or two but really did improve over the 5 hours we had it open. Will obviously last and improve over the next 20 years and I’m sure go further still . — 3 years ago
Great, big wine...at Filomena's in DC...with great company! — 6 years ago
From magnum. Slightly deeper ruby , thin ruby rim . Quite a lot more dense and darker fruits , cassis , violet , red plum , blackberry, warm earth . On the palate this is denser and more tannic , more body , dark cassis , summer fruits , violets , hedgerow fruits . Hugely elegant and long , balanced and refined . Mineral and earthy but bright and vivacious . Again shows pretty similar to last year , more dense, intense and bigger boned than La Mission , but still supremely refined and balanced . Come back in 10 -15 years , and will surely show well for another 15-20 — 6 months ago

From a really fine, structured Napa vintage, this shows dark fruits and mineral notes aromatically, still has loads of Dunn Howell Mountain structure and tannin, long, lingering finish, but the finish suggests that it needs 10-20 more years of aging, simply an incredible, old school (13% ABV) Napa mountain Cabernet with amazing length and freshness, a true WOW wine (if you’re moderately unoffended by the enormous structure still remaining)!!! — 8 months ago
Huge red fruit, soft tannins. An absolute baby with at least 20 years to evolve. Long lingering aftertaste on the mid pallet. Minerality and tannins will continue to become a bigger part of the taste profile. I won't try again for a few years. Huge upside. You can and should purchase while still available. A great addition to the wine cellar. Now that Phelps has sold it will be interesting to see what they do with Insignia.🍷🍷🍷🍷 — 2 years ago
Bottled in ‘96 and the cork was toast by the time we opened it up. Closed at first but opened up after about half an hour. Nice tawny flavors, maple syrup and carmel. Extended and lively finish. — 4 years ago
It's time for my #FridayCabernetfix.
Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish, cloudy rim.
Red fruits on the nose with light oak, tobacco leaf, herbs, earth and light chocolates notes.
Medium plus in body with medium acidity.
Dry on the palate with black currants, black plums, cooked cherries, herbs, light vegetables, earth, dark chocolates and peppercorn.
Nice finish with round tannins and tangy raspberries.
This 10 year old Cabernet Sauvignon from Saint Estephe is starting to drink beautifully now, but still feels young.
Needs a couple of hours to open up properly, and will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years. Showing good potential to become a 94+ point wine in 10 years.
Rich, but not extracted. Soft and elegant. Fruity and complex. Nicely balanced and interesting.
Good by itself as a sipping wine, and will pair nicely with food too.
A blend of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot. Aged in all New French oak barrels for 20 months.
13.5% alcohol by volume.
92 points.

Chilean Bordeaux Style blend that includes Cabernet Sauvignon (70%), Merlot (20%) and Carmenere (10%). Light ruby color with a distinctive orange rim. Showing its age a bit but still quite enjoyable. Aromas of dried black cherries/berries along with hints of tobacco and wet soil. Flavors of dark chocolate, prunes, blackberries, coffee, cassis and a bit of black licorice. Nice presence of oak on the medium finish. Medium-plus texture and body. Acidity is quite present which gives this wine a bit of youthful freshness. Very interesting to try and still quite alive. Thanks so much for the bottle, Petey! — 8 months ago
1 hour decant(some chunky/fine sediment). A splendid dark medium garnet with little bricking. On the nose: expressive perfumed nose with dark plum/cherry, currants, milk chocolate, baking spice, floral, wet forest floor, touch of roasted meat. Taste: silky, balanced, elegant wine that is singing at 20 years with dried red fruit, earth, chocolate, cedar, minerals, saline, and a spiced-tobacco-green bell pepper long finish. YUM! — 9 months ago

I'm not usually a huge fan of Port, but give me this after a nice meal. Significantly different than the 10 year. Caramel. Smokey. Honey Nut Cheerios. — 2 years ago

Sipping Fine Wine
Ruby with complex fruit aromas, spice and oak. Blend of 90% Tempranillo & 10% Graciano, aged 48 months on American oak, 20% new. On the palate flavors of dark berry fruits with spice, oak and smoky earthy notes, slight vanilla nuances on ripe full soft silky tannins. Long finish, nice mouthfeel, ending with fruit, oak, cigar box spice and clean mineral earthy tones, a joy to Sip this Fine Wine!! Tasting great, has more aging potential! — 5 months ago
