Hazy Little Thing IPA

Grapefruit juice coloration with egg white foam. Shamrock to bubble font and naive gryphon lacing. Nettle and lemon nose grows sweet grapefruit-tangerine, and Meyer-key lime. Bite-y saline-citrus of lemon proper, candied grapefruit, hibiscus, white pepper and lime zest.

Clos Erasmus

Laurel Priorat Garnacha Blend

Starts with blueberry, maybe a little root beer. Dark plums and graphite. Develops allspice, then menthol and cigar smoke after a couple hours. Dry, moderate acidity, heavier bodied and moderate to heavy tannins. Comes across as well balanced despite the 15% alcohol level. — 6 years ago

Comptche Ridge Vineyards

Mendocino County Pinot Noir 2014

Light and a little funky. Tastes somewhat like a sour beer. Keep wanting to go back for another sip. — 7 years ago

Le Village Côte de Nuits Villages Pinot Noir 2015

8.9

A little weightier than expected, black raspberry fruit framed by deft oak. Some talc-like tannins, also. On day 2 got that weird beer-like nutty/savory finish I get in low-intervention wines sometimes. Overall very nice, esp considering price — 8 years ago

Brasserie De La Pigeonnelle

Loirette Bière Artisanale de Touraine

A little Friday beer. Really enjoyed this. Round mouthfeel, but not heavy. Malty with notes of tart orange, stone fruits, a little banana, hay and herbs. A touch of funk. Light sweetness, but with a touch of sour. — 9 years ago

Smokestack Series Bourbon Barrel Quad Ale 2013

Opening up some beer to create cellar space. Also minor celebration for work related stuff. Not what I expected but real good. Highly carbonated and the beer itself is actually a little light in power. But the bourbon is very well integrated. Lots of vanilla. It doesn't taste like a flabby Chardonnay. I wish there was a little more raisins in there as it's a good taste. Maybe waited a little long on this one? Good though — 9 years ago

Who says beer is the only option for baseball? A little SB and CWS make a great combo. @Brandon Sparks-Gillis such a refreshing wine but still pushing the envelope for depth and complexity - kudos! — 10 years ago

Château de la Dauphine

Fronsac Merlot Cabernet Franc 2018

Vintage 2018 | paired with venison steak, chicory stewed in beer and baked potatoes | 4 h in decanter | beautiful red fruit in smell, tobacco and hint of chocolate. A bit tough taste, nice, but will develop further. Seems a little restricted in this stage. — a year ago

Doppelbock

A little raspy from dark malt cereal addition but overall malty, ever so slightly sweet and easy to drink. My preferred beer style in my college days. On point for style — 3 years ago

Brouwerij Van Honsebrouck

Bacchus Ale

As the name suggests, a raspberry bomb. Kinda wipes out any trace of it being a beer even. And arguably it's even more "raspberry" than raspberry juice. I mean its like a concentrate without being overbearing, although I would prefer little more acidity to counteract the sweetness. Wouldn't look for it, but it sure was fun to drink! — 7 years ago

Brewery Ommegang

Abbey Ale Dubbel Ale

A little disjoint compared to when I've had this before - uneven on the palate with a clipped finish. If this were a wine I'd call it bottle shock - but still a good beer to start off a return visit to my Alma Mater, Bucknell University! — 9 years ago

Koshihikari Echigo Beer

I may have a new favorite Japanese beer, actually brewed in Japan ! Orion had been my go to real Brewed in Japan beer but this rice beer has a little better flavor and a better match with my sushi and saké. And only $4. For 22oz bottle at Sinju in the Pearl seems like a bargain — 10 years ago

Daisy Cutter Pale Ale

Ah, the king of them all. So bitter after fruitier IPA’s. Dangerously refreshing.
Easy to put away, 1,2,3 . 5.2°
Balance of grain/hops. Not too much or too little. With fatty foods, a dream.
Used to be a nicer can. No accounting for aesthetics. Not to mind, in this case, Chicago conquers Philly. I bow.

Proper Oktoberfest beer. Amber colour with good carbonation and a pleasant fluffy head.

Marzen tends to be a little sweeter and less hoppy than other German beer/Helles, and this one by Hacker Pschorr is very nice indeed.

Stone Dwellers Strathbogie Ranges Shiraz 2009

Blind, no one would know this is Aussie. If they made those little root beer barrels in a cream soda flavor, this would be the model for them. The penetrating acidity keeps this interesting, but only just enough. — 10 years ago

Rozetto Rosé Blend

Bought at a cool little combination vintage clothing shop/natural wine store in Tallinn. Super hip, I know; sue me. Natural Loire Valley (this is VdF but I'm pretty sure this producer is located in Touraine and I'm guessing the grapes are at least mostly sourced from there as well) rosé bubbles consisting of a blend of Grolleau and Cab Franc. Semi-sparkling/frizzante. Unfiltered, a quite small amount of sediment is visible floating in the bottle. Not sure whether or not this qualifies as a pet-nat since the production method isn't totally clear from bottle info but it fits the character of one regardless of production method. A bit funky but delightfully so and its not over the top at all. Slightly unripe wild raspberry and strawberry, some funky yeastiness that's almost lager-esque (also pours like a beer as well in terms of bubble texture/level of carbonation), a tiny bit of heavy cream, and wet granite and quartz stones, not unlike the stone of the beach of the island we just left (Hitis in the Finnish archipelago) where we spent a few days at my favorite place on earth, my family's shared summer cabin. Overall, somewhat like a sour beer in overall character, in a really cool way. Med. (+) acidity keeps it juicy and fresh. Super yummy. Great pizza wine. — 10 years ago
