Stick Figure

Domaine Gayda

Figure Libre Vin de Pays d'Oc Cabernet Franc

虽然小贵,但是南法真正的热情风情我能在这款酒当中完美体会到,浓郁的红色浆果味搭配淡淡的玫瑰花香,石墨味很足,绝对能喝出来是品丽珠 — 3 months ago

Bogle Vineyards

Essential Red Old Vine California Red Blend 2020

This wine is quite dark and quite aromatic. The nose would be fruit-forward if the oak spices weren’t so strident. The big display shows dark fruit - plum, blackberry and black currant - carried along by a huge whiff of clove, cedar, tobacco, cardamom and several other occupants of the spice rack, I’m sure. The palate is similarly blessed, or handicapped, depending on your own view of oak treatment. The oak in this wine is heavy-handed and best suited for blunt-force trauma. That is disappointing, since I have long been a fan of Bogle’s wines. I’ll stick with their other offerings in the future. — 4 months ago

Paul, 90 points is about the bottom end for me. And for those who like the big, oaky style it probably scores a bullseye. Cheers!

Hendricks Wines

Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir 2014

David T
9.5

The Hendricks Pinot from the Doctors Vineyard in Santa Lucia. 11 barrels made. 22 months in French oak. I don’t know what everyone is used to but a Pinot 22 months in French oak is far more rare than common. This is my first look from the four bottles I’ve stored. Roughly eight years is the timing for first look.

This may be the best CA Pinot I have consistently yr over yr. The fruit is ripe, dry-ish, slightly tart; blackberries, dark cherries, black plum, black raspberries, plum, notes of blueberries, raspberries, dry cranberries & strawberries. Beautiful mid spices, nutmeg, cinnamon-cinnamon stick, vanillin, mid to dark berry cola, dry brush, dry clay, loamy, limestone volcanics, dark, dry soil, dark chocolate baking bar, crushed dry rocks, notes of not quite eucalyptus, tree bark w/ sap, fresh & slightly withering, dark, red, blue florals framed in subtle violets, near perfect acidity with a nicely structured, well balanced, velvety/silky, consistent wire to wire finish that lasts a minute and half. Simply amazing palate.

Good first look but better things ahead for my next bottle(s). Another 15 plus years of half drinking ahead.

Happy Labor Day weekend.

Reserve Tapestry Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 1997

9.5

The follow up to the 03 Brane-Cantenac. So good but still youthful now as I mentioned this 97 still is in @Paul T- Huntington Beach recent post of his 2013.

The tannins are round, softened but still meaty & somewhat tarry.

The nose is still brooding. Ripe lush, ruby, fruits of, blackberries, black plum, black raspberries, dark cherries, baked to poached strawberries. Dark, rich, sweet forest floor, mix of Indian & Asian spice with palate piercing heat, notes of Cognac, steeped tea, clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, black licorice, tarry notes, day crushed rocks, limestone minerals, grey volcanic minerals, light tobacco with ash, used leather, sandalwood, bright, fresh; dark, red, blue florals with violets.

The palate is ripe, lush, juicy & floral fruits of; blackberries, black plum, black raspberries, dark cherries, baked to poached strawberries, raspberry highlights & pomegranate. Dark, rich, sweet forest floor, mix of Indian & Asian spice, notes of Cognac, steeped tea, clove, nutmeg, cinnamon stick, black licorice, tarry notes, day crushed rocks, limestone minerals, grey volcanic minerals/ash, moist, grey clay, light tobacco with ash, used leather, sandalwood, bright, fresh; dark, red, blue florals with violets, insane, waterfall acidity, woven, layered, structured, nicely tensioned with great length and a incredibly balanced, well polished finish that goes on for two to three minutes.

If you are 15-20 years plus patient w/ these bottling’s, they are one of the very best values in Napa Valley.

Happy Anniversary Sofia. Your favorite producer, Williams Selyem. Cortona in my dreams always. 🌹

Still a bit youngish but, good. Lighter, floral, dark cherries, both plums, blackberries, black raspberries, strawberries, purple fruit potpourri, pomegranate, mid, dark Asian spices, nutmeg, cinnamon stick, vanilla, steeped tea, semi-dry tobacco, some grilled meats - porkish, mid palate almost speaks to Chateauneuf-de-Pape, limestone & gray, mix of moist clay w/ grey, volcanic minerals, hints of pepper, sandalwood to barrel shavings, mixed berry licorice/cola, rainbow, mid to dark, red, floral bouquet, excellent, rain shower acidity, well knitted evolution, integration, well structured & tensioned, balanced fruit & earth with nice polish and an even, long finish that lasts minutes. ❤️

Cuvee Cassaneas Bourgogne Blanc Chardonnay 2020

Lyle Fass
9.5

The 4th vintage now of the greatest Bourgogne Blanc in the world. Just a massively complex nose of wet stones, incisive minerality, dash of oak, lime zest, lemon drop that is pure as the driven snow. Just a shockingly incredible nose that screams 1er cru Chassagne all the way. So layered and so deep a new nuance every time you stick your nose in the glass. The palate, as usual, overdelivers with just stunning concentration and lemon flesh intensity and drop dead, drool worthy purity. It’s round yet incredibly fresh and deep. What a finish that just lingers and lingers with a sweet lemon-lime intensity on a bed of minerals. Easiest 9.5 I’ve ever given. Wow what purity. Has that amazing combo of sweet, rich, salty and mineral. This is brilliant A1 winemaking. So slippery on the finish. This is wide open and more open than the 19 was at this phase of its evolution. Just a stunning stunning wine.

As this airs it gets more stunning. Tree bark, saline, iodine, white flowers and more! Superb concentration and density but also round and fresh. Lemony fruit but right now the salty sweet minerals abound. Just a miracle of a wine.

Marcassin Vineyard Pinot Noir 2006

2006 vintage. Decanted and tasted after an hour. Quite a bit of sed. Light-medium/medium body. Sandalwood, plum, orange peel and raspberry all on display here. Good focus remaining. Figure it to cling to this spot for another 4-5 years before going down a notch. 1.19.24. — 4 months ago

Cantina Zaccagnini

Il Vino Dal Tralcetto Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2020

Big aroma of dark dusty berries. Dry light sour cherries and berries upfront. Ends with a dry tannic dusty finish. Classic Italian montepulciano . From the QR code “ For Zaccagnini wine is a cult summarized in the “tralcetto”, the stick of vine placed on his bottles, which has become a symbol of excellence, passion and love for art and wine.” — 6 months ago

This is still very young. Lots of lush, ruby fruits of; blackberries, black plum, black raspberries. Tons of barrel notes; wood shavings, charcoal, vanilla, nutmeg, cinnamon stick, strong, dark spices, caramel, mocha. Meaty, tarry, velvety tannins, dusty soil, volcanic ash, some lead pencil, purple flowers- lavender, violets, nice round acidity. Long, well structured, still big tension but balanced finish. Needs another 6 years of evolution for me. But, nice bottle friends opened. $36 on Last Bottle…over delivers that price now and will even more in six years. — 9 months ago
