Château Calon-Ségur

Le Marquis Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

2018 vintage. Yes, the “green”
note from the Vinous review is there but it is very high/front palate. Still oodles of structure, fruit, balance and drinkability that minimizes it. Starts as green bell pepper initially, then trends toward mint. Second bottle in a little over a week. First bottle was a monster. Second bottle a little more restrained. Where exactly does the truth lie? In the middle as usual? More deep investigation required…**EDIT**Green note gone the next day/24 hrs later after leaving half the bottle in the fridge w/o any preservation techniques other than putting the cork back in the bottle/refrigeration.

Château Beau-Séjour Bécot

Saint-Émilion 1er Grand Cru Classé Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

Yum. So balanced, so addictive. Easy dark red fruit upfront with a smooth small grained tannins and white pepper creating a silky but penetrating finish that lingered. Shared it with my mother in law who says she doesn’t care what wine she drinks….but why did she ask me for more so quickly??? — 9 days ago

Château Villemaurine

St. Émilion Grand Cru Classé Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

2015 vintage. Forward deep plum and molasses nose. Medium-heavy body. The molasses and plum + orange tea, chalk dust and a slight Sauternes accent. Interesting. Seems like it’s going through some things currently but still willing to please. Likely to lose some weight and be in a slightly different place in 1.5-3 years. — 2 days ago

Château Lafon-Rochet

Saint-Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

2018 vintage. Last tasted 8.3.21. A little less overtly rich and smoky…slightly less body and more polish. Had I been blind tasting, woulda guessed 2015 Château Meyney. Still super smooth and über-drinkable. Starting to pick up a hint of tannic resistance. So good. — 14 hours ago

Château Fleur Cardinale

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2018

2018 vintage. Muddled nose and okay finish. Beautiful medium body tho. A tad discombobulated currently. Lacking the focus of the 2016 that I tasted less than a week ago. Got the feeling it’ll escape from the self-imposed confines in the next two years and chart a defining course. — 6 days ago

Château Léoville Barton

Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2000

Whoa! Commenting later . Brilliant`. The morning after, still blown away by the big muscular piece of the earth soil before transforming into a chewy licorice in the hour of decant. This is a big wine that is said to have another 30 years. At 21 years, it’s just entering a drinking window. RP will take this to 100 in the next decade. — 4 days ago

Layered down to the earth. Silky and brawny. What a journey over an hour in the decanter.
