Nemea, Peloponnisos

Gaia (Gaia's Estate)

S Agiorgitiko & Syrah 2011

This red wine is from the Peloponnese which is the southernmost part of the Greek mainland. Agiorgitiko is native to this peninsula. It is rich Ruby in the glass with aromatics of plum, prune, licorice and tar. For the warm sunny conditions this is lacking the fruit depth compared to say an Australian red - more like an Etna red. Finishes with fine powdery tannins and an astringent touch. The following day the palate reminded me of a Tuscan Sangiovese with sour cherry and fine grainy tannins. Enjoyable - would buy again. — 3 days ago

Interesting Greek red. Great structure with notes of dried currants and cherries. Strong bell pepper finish with spice. Very dry and highly acidic. Medium high alcohol. Excellent value at just $50 — 3 days ago

Funky almost rotten nose. Taste like somewhat dipped fatty pork in it before bottling. Good nonetheless. Earthy and sweet and balanced. — a month ago

This is one of the better red wines I’ve had from #Greece The wine has ripe red fruit, hints of spice and hints of cedar and toast from an oak maturation. I don’t particularly like the oak flavors of this wine, seem slightly chocolatey toasty and take away from the fruit. On the whole, a nice bottle of riper #pinotnoir — 2 months ago
