Montalcino

Tenuta Col d'Orcia

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2013

Medium garnet , quite a quite wide garnet rim . This is quite spiced on the nose with , some red cherries , spiced raspberries and sweet anise, liquorice, some notes dried herbal , black tea hints . On the palate this is medium bodied with quite high acidity , more spiced cherry , raspberry and herbal hints , with the sweet anise notes also . Not very long on the palate but quite well balanced . Spiced , sweet fruited profile, quite light in style for a Brunello. This is drinking well now and I wouldn’t leave it very much longer, no upside from here , enjoy over the next 3-4 years. Next day , showing a little more dried fruits and spice , anise , still hanging in there , but nothing to gain by keeping. — 2 days ago

Castelgiocondo Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2019

Huge producer but all organic. Cranberry, cherry, orange peel, tobacco leaf, carob, perfect smidge of VA to keep things interesting. Ripe, tactile tannins. Touch hot at 14.5%. Drink or hold with or without food. I preferred the balance of this on day 2. — 5 days ago

Tenuta Nuova Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2020

This is an old friend. An old experience I've had before but different. Younger, with more time needed to open but as the wine changes and evolves, its reminiscent to those brunellos of the past. This may not be the most ideal brunello year but it definitely satisfies the experience. Sometimes i wonder if any brunello will come close to those brunellos I had in the past but as the time passes, things evolve and change and maybe youll get glimmers of those brunellos but nothing exact. Well this is the first brunello of this decade of 2020, so we will see what the future holds! Definitely worth another try but after its aged a few months or years. Good nonetheless. — a month ago

This producer is an underrated powerhouse. Always impressive. This is another excellent showing. Complex. Strong fruit. Power but with spice and earthy kick. Fantastic. I would give it a few more years. Should be even better. — 13 days ago

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2010

Deep garnet with a tawny rim. A savoury earthy mushroom note coming through - also balsamic notes. Fading red cherry on the palate. An excellent Brunello from a good vintage, travelling well at 15 years. A fabulous food wine with homemade fettuccine. I will probably drink my last bottle in 2027/28 although I have a drinking window through to the early 2030s. — 18 days ago

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2019

Fantastic. A southeast brunello. Immediately dark cherry, touches of plums, spice, and the acidity and tannins integrated well. As it decanted, the tannins soften drastically with the acidity slightly overpowering, but nevertheless, the fruit stayed and lingered til the end. — 25 days ago
