Musk, Holly berries and bramble, pine needles, iron, velvet, driftwood, hints of coffee and bold red meat. There’s berries in there, red, lush, ripe and dark, but it’s so well integrated into the perfume (and it is perfume) that it’s impossible to separate them. Like a thin spread of preserves and dank basement. Palate has that lean nature of Syrah, between medium and light bodied, tannins present, but molded well into the palate, not ostentatious. Lush, silky dark red and black fruits roll forth, along with some charcoal, graphite, blood, and iron. — 7 months ago

Leftovers from our 2nd Annual, “Bierock Bonaza: Let’s have some funza with Runza”.

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of three hours. The 2015 pours a deep ruby with a slightly purple tinge and a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with light staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of lightly stewed, spiced strawberry, ripe fig, and cherry lozenges, red flowers, green herbs, with a touch of leather, and a mix of organic and inorganic rocky earth. Just the faintest hint of mouse. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. The alcohol is also medium+. Delicious. Drink now through 2030.

Tasted blind. On to the reds, we're served two side by side. This is light tawny color, translucent. Masculine nose. Notes of black fruit, dark earth, cherries and some hickory. Very rustic, which led me to a 1989 guess as to the vintage. Guessed 89 Rousseau Clos de Beze. I've had this Jadot bottle several times over the years... this was clearly the best performance for it, and bottles like tonight's easily have another decade in front of it but I don't think it will get any better with more age. — 6 years ago

Magnum pour decanted was my favorite. Really hits with a punch of acid off the bat - pomelo, green citrus, hint of mushroom. Very fine bubbles, cinnamon roll glaze creaminess. Non-decanted version was more bitter, more grapefruit zest and pith. 70% pinot noir, 30% chardonnay - though the color was quite light and leaned straw with just a hint of pink. — 9 months ago
