Tasted blind. On to the reds, we're served two side by side. This is light tawny color, translucent. Masculine nose. Notes of black fruit, dark earth, cherries and some hickory. Very rustic, which led me to a 1989 guess as to the vintage. Guessed 89 Rousseau Clos de Beze. I've had this Jadot bottle several times over the years... this was clearly the best performance for it, and bottles like tonight's easily have another decade in front of it but I don't think it will get any better with more age.

Wonderful evening at the City Club courtesy of Jeff’s hosting at the Friday group. Cellar guessing Jeff is a dangerous game as he’s the type who plans to throw curveballs! All wines served blind.

Zero guesses of Pinot around the table. Most (like myself) guessed late 90s Napa Cab. Red and black fruit was powerful up front but subdued on the mid palate. Gained some darker fruit/black cherry and was more fruit forward than the La Conseillante.

Just starting to approach its prime drinking window. Still with a core of young fruit, it has years of life left, but has some development and mature aromatics as well. A very nice wine.

Light ruby with brownish red rims. Bright and translucent. Nose of cherries and earth. Still has a firm grip in the mouth. Long finish. Great wine.

Light ruby color. Nice fruity nose with some raspberry notes in the mouth. Still lots of structure with a long finish.

Great color even at age 34. The cork was purple. A good nose and it drank better early, but held together for a roast chicken and stuffing dinner
