Wow. Just wow. How does this 1983 still have this much tannin? Maybe I shouldn't be so shocked, but this wine is just beautiful right now. Soft and approachable on the front, with dark fruit and tobacco and leather. But then some surprisingly strong tannins. How much longer could this 33 year old juice last?! Bravo Gaja. This 2018 Rossj-Bass continues to impress with its vibrant and layered expression. On the nose, the Sauvignon Blanc influence lends bright aromatic lift, offering ripe peach, zesty lemon peel, and a delicate touch of passionfruit, all woven together with nuances of almond and a whisper of jasmine. The palate is beautifully balanced, round and texture with a medium-full body, yet lifted by a lively, refreshing acidity. The finish is polished and harmonious. Really a lovely langhe nebbiolo from a producer we respect deeply after walking the Bricco Boschis with him a couple years ago. Decanted for 3 hours which I definitely recommend at this time. A bit unresolved still in terms of tannins. But deeply aromatic with great dark fruit and acid. Probably a better pairing with a cut of meat vs pizza. Delicious. — 5 years ago
