Pali Wine Co.

Huntington Santa Barbara County Pinot Noir 2018

I’m a big fan of PNs from SLH and maybe see SB a second with some others but this Pali (under $20) bottling just kept on opening and ended up with a lot of sweet berries. If you don’t get Pali check them out and join their club. Great drinking whites and reds — 4 years ago

La Sangre de Jonata Ballard Canyon Syrah 2014

Shay A
9.3

Give this another 2-3yrs and I think this is a 9.4-9.5 wine. Aromatics alone are worth the price of entry. Smoked brisket, teriyaki Jerky, black peppercorn, and rhubarb pie. A balance between savory and funky Syrah style with a dash of spicy red fruit to add complexity. Iron, bacon fat and herbaceous notes accompany ripe black cherries and fig. Great stuff. — 5 years ago

Ballard Canyon Estate Reserve Syrah

An amazing Syrah with balance. Fruit from start to finish. The price point is a bit tight but a wine that can be laid down for several years to come. — 5 years ago

Vandenberg Riesling 2013

I had this at Kali in Los Angeles, where sommelier Drew Langley watches over an immaculately curated wine list. Does "Summer of Riesling" do it for you? It does for me, especially when they are such good examples. My wife had a Kabinett, but I had this Vandenberg example from Santa Barbara County. They listed it as "dry and medium bodied," which is good advice for a Riesling. This one, though, has a nice touch of petrol - I mean why order Riesling unless it has that? - along with extreme minerality and a muted citrus note. Paired it with the Niçoise salad to great effect. Also a hit with the wife's roast pork, Pennsylvania native that she is. — 8 years ago

White Hawk Vineyard Syrah 2013

2013 Herman Story Syrah White Hawk
Dark purple in color. Medium + bodied.
What a nose -comes off prosciutto, lavender, spice black jam.
Screaming blackberries, ground pepper, gaminess. Silky tannins, light acidity & a great finish. What’s not to love.
Very close to a PNP...let it open up in your glass for a short bit of time.
Wouldn’t wait more than a few years to drink these up. IMHO

The Offering Syrah Blend 2016

It’s gorgeous from stem to stern. We tasted it straight out of the bottle in addition to a good-time of decanting and while different experiences between the two- this is a luscious, GORGEOUS blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre- and a splash of Viognier. It’s the perfect bottle to take to pair with lamb, steak- SHRIMPIES, whatevs. We were blown away. It is NOT cheap- but with regard to value- I’ve yet to meet its equal. — 4 years ago

Santa Barbara County Chardonnay 2016

Just a very solid Chardonnay. You can taste just a hint of the malo notes on first sip but that quickly fades with some air, leaving a fleshy, intensely minerally chardonnay with great acid. Would have guessed puligny blind probably. Very nice and a good value. — 5 years ago

Tenshen

Santa Barbara County White Blend

Every white grape on earth might be in this blend. The result is a blast of ripe apricot, pear and melon. Hint of lime. Maybe some fennel? Very fruity, but not to the point of no return. If you’re not looking for crisp acidity, you’ll be okay with Tenshen. — 6 years ago
