Château Barde-Haut

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2017

Super earthy at first, but with air the fruit/earth balance is equilibrating. Loads of irony/clay notes in the nose, with dark plummy fruit. Tannins are integrating but still present. This presents more like a 20th Century right bank wine than what is usual now, with fruit and softness but no overripeness and a nice sense of restraint. — a month ago

Château Haut-Segottes

Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Red Bordeaux Blend 2012

Initially Raspberry tart and Brett in a good way. Cork is amazing! Rich thick chewy mouthfeel. Fruit and wood still very prominent and well integrated. Surprised this has really held up well. — 3 months ago

Château Nenin

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 1966

I decanted for sediment and allowed to breathe for a couple of hours prior to serving double-blind to my friends. The 1966 Chateau Nenin pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core moving out to a slightly amber rim; medium viscosity with no obvious staining of the tears but there is some sediment. On the nose (and oh what a nose it is!), the wine is vinous with a beautiful combination of ripe and desiccated fruits: notes of ripe plums, brambles, purple flowers, pipe tobacco, fennel, baking spices, iron rich earth and forest floor. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+, soft and the texture is thin. One of those wow experiences. The room was all over the place with their calls: Spain, Australia, USA, Italy and France with most expecting 20-30 years of age. None were particularly surprised when it was revealed to be Pomerol. All were stunned when they learned it was a ‘66. Evergreen. Drink now with a two hour decant and well stored examples have years of life left — 6 months ago

Nice - love magnums, especially for wines with modest origin. It creates surprises.

Mags also really slow down pace of ageing I think. This one felt fresher than one could expect from a ‘12 Lalande.

Château Fleur Cardinale

Grand Cru Classé Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2016

2016 vintage. Last tasted 11.21.21 (9.3), Body has thinned out from medium heavy/heavy body to medium body along with one of the best BDX noses I've ever scented still performing as such. The 11.21.21 notes still holding up. Sprinkle a little corn meal into that nose and we are golden. Wine is currently in a state of transition but still so giving. Ridiculous value BDX. Need to pick up another 4-5 bottles. This is going to be a fascinating journey. 02.17.25. — 2 months ago
