Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2019

Last had this vintage a couple years ago. These obviously have a long life ahead of them. With some nice air, this does open up. Wonderful dark fruit and earth aromas. Tannins are quite present and a bit bitter (not in a bad way at all). Excellent acid on the finish. Delicious pairing with kinderhook pork chops with tutto porchetta seasoning. — 7 days ago

Beautiful wine from a top vintage. Drinkable now, but definitely still room for ageing. Dark fruit, like black cherries, with notes of leather and cedar. Also still clear green notes, such as paprika and pine needles. Typical San Leonardo style. — a month ago

Riserva Montestefano Barbaresco Nebbiolo 2019

With Cote de Boeuf, fantastic combo, the meat tames the wine (tannins) and the wine elevates the meat. Still young, nice fruit, very good acidity. Really enjoyable — 15 hours ago

I find it puzzling that some wines do this (act “tired” initially but then do a Benjamin Button). But I’ve experienced this before. I’d love to know whether this is associated with certain winemaking techniques.

@Tom Casagrande I agree. But I attribute it to a Nebbiolo which hasn’t seen air for 12 years. But I’m no expert on the matter besides the experience you have: starting tired but opening surprisingly after some time in the glass.
