Bacigalupi Vineyard Petite Sirah 2014

Dark and brooding with crimson hues, the 2014 Wonderment Petite Sirah is a stunner. I’ve never been a big fan of single varietal Petite Sirahs (save a few of much loftier prices)- but the outright class of the 2014 vintage of the Russian River Valley from where this puppy was born is in its glory. The nose is VERY expressive and is in no way shy. After given time to breathe, the nose leads to an absolutely silky, lush and seductive palate that has to be felt to be understood. It drips of a syrupy, plush, smokey boysenberry on the palate and just keeps expanding. The finish is remarkable. Flavors linger on the palate as if lit-up in neon and fade all the same. In sum: find it, drink it, love it. @winewarehouse — 8 days ago

Pepper, cherry, and a touch of cinnamon. Was a nice complement to the duck breast, had enough acidity to hold up to the fat. — 20 days ago

This producer is so consistently strong.
Nose displays lemon zest, sherbet and white fruits. Mid palate is less extravagant than previous vintages - which we love. More focus and tension propped up with zippy acidity. Less weight and viscosity which tilts towards burgundy in style. Best Renoveau from this producer. Some of the best Cali chards and Pinots come from this producer.
Katey is the daughter of the producer. Tell her a big handsome black dude sent you…

@Michael Younkins, what a superb question. First, bear in mind that wine tasting is an emotional abstraction. It’s like the study of ethics - a mental abstraction. Now to what I was trying to convey.
My description revolves around ACIDITY, energy, the sensory perception that the wine invokes, in this case. If you re-read my notes, my descriptors come back to a racy/crisp/bracing experience. But remember that “beauty is in the eye of the beholder.” Peace out ✌🏾

Thanks Ron. Makes sense. Great explanation.

@Michael Younkins, you’re most welcome. Another construct would be the snap of an elastic band under “tension.” Squeeze fresh lemons onto your tongue - that’s the tension I’m referring to, just not as aggressive in this case cheers.
