A lunch for the folks who have been extremely generous and influential in my wine journey. Salon always needs 20 + years from vintage. As expected no where near maturity.A shy nose of apple , pear and flint. On the palate more round than linear. Acidity is very good but not as assertive as some previous vintages .A coiled spring. — 9 months ago
Medium gold. Oxidative nose. Notes of caramel apple, toffee, some lemon and some white stone. Lots of fruit in the mouth, but no backbone and lacking in acidity. I wouldn’t call this premox; the wine just comes off as being old and likely is reflective of the vintage. — 3 years ago
Pretty much what I expect from aged champs on lees. Lots o autolysis, mushroom n some cellar. Little mineral n yellow apple. Not at peak yet still bery tasty. Didn’t win from a day in fridge... — 4 years ago
Beautiful acidity with green apple and almond skin. — 4 years ago
Tons of apple — 5 years ago
Awesome stuff. Biscuit dough, baked apple, a bit of oak influence, beautiful effervescence and great acid. 2005 vintage, but can only imagine how it will be in 20 years.. — 7 years ago
With Hibiscus floral notes on the nose, hints of strawberry, tart green apple upfront with a sweet mango, pineapple on the finish, this is my "go to" Champagne. — 8 years ago
Pear, Apple, brioche, lemon zest, white pepper and white flowers. M+ acid, m body, citrus and minerality. Rich full body, creamy. Long finish. — 9 years ago
Subtly perfumey and very easy to cash — 10 years ago
Best. Brut. Bubbles. Expensive but worth it. Some dry earth but lots of apple and pear. Everything has to compete with this. Serve with cheeseburgers and fries!!! — 2 years ago
Good price at warehouse so I snagged one for wiener schnitzel dinner w/ cateloupe, prosciutto, radicchio &fig salad. Opened to give it a lot of air. Cream soda dum dum, Fuji apple, hint of gasoline but not a lot. Goes onto a grapefruit/citrus thing and a nice cream soda finish. Mineral and wonderfully acidic. Need to find older bottles! — 3 years ago
Love this wine/producer. Super clean and focused. Tart apple, slight toast, pear, crushed rocks and amazing acidity to bring it all together. — 4 years ago
Quite tart. A new favorite for tapas! — 5 years ago
Day 4 in Napa in the books! Running a day behind on notes...Napa time runs slow AND fast!
Another year, another insane meet up with @jesus g ! We had the pleasure of hanging out with him twice this time, once at the Davies tasting room and a second time when he gave us an awesome private, VIP like experience at the Schramsberg caves!
This ‘09 JSchram, which is their more Blanc de Blanc style, is young bit delicious. Lemon bar, apple crisp, cashew, meringue and and just beginning to show some honeycomb/honeyed melon notes. I decided I like the JSchram with more age and enjoy the Reserve at a younger age. — 5 years ago
Only Randall could imagine this unique combination. — 7 years ago
Just good enough to fall into the love category. Loads of limestone and lees with citrus blossom, tart green apple, honeydew rind. Creamy mouthfeel. — 8 years ago
Wine with lots of fineness. Mineral and green apple — 9 years ago
Toasted brioche. Toasted brioche. Toasted brioche. And a little bit of green apple, wool and chamomile — 11 years ago
Just amazing…i feel its worth the price…slight golden, baked apple, spice, slight vanilla, raging acidity and long finish… — 9 months ago
Slight fizz. Nice acid. Green apple. Perfect for a warm day! — 9 months ago
Opulent and complex. Green apple, peach, a bit pipe apple, brioche, fresh bread dough, chalk, sea shells, and hint of toasted nuts. Savory and crisp at the same time. Splendid acidity. Super energetic mousse, though lacking a bit refinement.
Base wine is 2011, disgorged 2018. This and the Bollinger Special Cuvée are two of my favorite NV Champaign from larger houses. With 40% reserved wine averaged 10 year old, the CH Brut Reserve no doubt is a better value. — 4 years ago
The nose reveals slightly sour & bruised fruits. Bruised golden apple & pear, overripe pineapple, lemon meringue, green apple, lime zest/candy, melted, salted caramel, honeysuckle, white & yellow peach, brown butter, caramelized brown sugar, hints of mint, sea fossils, grey volcanics, whiff of white spice, vanillin, bread dough, yellow lilies, spring flowers with mixed floral greens.
The palate is rich, lush, round, a touch gluey & full. Nice mousse, micro-oxygenation, slightly sour & bruised fruits Bruised golden apple & pear, overripe pineapple, lemon meringue, green apple, lime zest/candy, melted, salted caramel, honeysuckle/honey comb, white & yellow peach, inside banana peel, brown butter, caramelized brown sugar, nougat, hints of mint, sea fossils, gritty, penetrating chalkiness, grey volcanics, some white spice with nice lighter heat, vanillin, bread dough, yellow lilies, spring flowers with mixed floral greens. Excellent acidy. The long, even, fresh, well balanced finish persists nicely and is delicious.
Nice bottle and well priced at $38 w/ deluxe gift box.
