Nose: sexy. Cherry lipstick. Dense. Quite penetrating. Earthiness. Insane sexy rich herbals. Almost like a red chartreuse.
Palate: dense. Purplish a bit. Darker fruits. Hints of cherry licorice. Almost like a very fresh pommard.
Long finish. So grippy. Amazing.

Love this wine. So clean. Apple, pear, skoche of wood. It’s a bit cold so the nose is not as expressive. Palate is ripe and juicy with amazingly clearly defined fruit. Very refined Lügle. Elegant and salty with lovely lime zest and framing sweet wood. Long. Needs to open and warm up. 9.3 for now. So round and so fresh. Lovely purity. Such a great wine. — 2 years ago
Just opened this. One can tell this will be a journey. I would only open this if you have at least 2-3 hours to Taste it. It’s all over the place on open. Basically tastes like if Ziereisen made wine in the mountains.
Nose is dense but has that alpine thing you get from like savoie. Very pretty. Almost intoxicating. Like a field of flowering cherry trees on top of a mountain.
Palate is very bright. Sweet cherry fruit.
A 9.5 easy on open. I’m guessing this will be better as it airs and integrates.
As this opens holy fuck. Nose is alpine with some gevrey spice. Palate is rubber made from grape vines (I know impossible), cherry. Rich. Elegant Cherry extract. Just a kiss of bitterness. Wowowowowo. So elegantly rich. Unbelievable.

Need some time to open up, to show the brilliant spicy / raspberry compote - with a pinch of nutmeg, cedar wood, just a hint of cinnamon and black pepper. So enticing, so juicy & fresh and yet, elegant.
Young & joyful on the palate, with nicely polished grippy tannins, juicy cherry acidity and an overall very elegant, velvety mouthfeel. Shows a bit of nice structure for a Pinot. While drinking beautifully right now,, I’d love to see this in 4-5 years.

Best Swiss Pinot I’ve ever had courtesy of Hanspeter Ziereisen. Freaking unreal nose. Dark violets, alpine scents galore, the best and most pure, vivid black cherries I’ve ever smelled. Wow. Just stunning. Smells rich but alpine rich! This is only just beginning as air is always the friend of anything HPZ makes. Wow that palate. Incredible freshness and density allied with just the most amazing finesse. This is as grand as any burgundy grand cru. Man, I could smell this forever. Amazing structure and the sweetest most velvety tannins. Amazing fruit concentration. What a finish. What complexity. Just stunning. Super young but super incredible. 18 is the best vintage of Riehen I’ve ever tasted. As it airs the fruit comes more Into focus on the palate and the nose. What clarity. Ridiculous Rhini! What a nose. Red cherries and berries galore. You can smell the density. Gorgeous soil and limestone tones. Unreal expansiveness and so so aromatic. Just a crazy nose that has so much breadth. The clarity, purity and pinosity are off the charts. Palate is tangy and tense and as usual at chez Ziereisen it needs mega air but the structural architecture is there. A very red fruited expression of Pinot which seems to be the new direction this estate’s Pinots are going in which I am here for. Lovely bitter herbals on the nose now. Great freshness and acidity but needs to fill out. It will. I’ll be back. Fruit getting sweeter with air that classic hidden Rhini structure. Now with air the nose is super spicy and complex . Herbal and spicey. Fruit is so much sweeter and is like a squeegee on the palate and clings to the palate. So clean on the backend. Huge quality change on day 2. Nose is denser and cleaner with rich cherry fruits, pine resin, black forest vibes and spice. Wow. A 9.7 nose today. Palate is elegant and dense with that unreal Rhini elegant yet substantial structure and crazy complexity. Big but very very fine tannins. 9.5 to 9.6 overnight. — 5 months ago
