Le Petit Pinot Noir 2019

Nose: sexy. Cherry lipstick. Dense. Quite penetrating. Earthiness. Insane sexy rich herbals. Almost like a red chartreuse.

Palate: dense. Purplish a bit. Darker fruits. Hints of cherry licorice. Almost like a very fresh pommard.

Long finish. So grippy. Amazing.

Hanspeter ziereisen made this in vintage. A sick wine for $100. This was much less.

Jaspis Zipsin Pinot Noir 2020

Smells tight! But oh so promising. Nose is herbal, spicey and has some early season cherry skins. A hint of early season cherry flesh but this will need many hours to unwind. Some breadth develops with air and the cherries become more clear. Palate is tight but my goodness it is all there. So linear, focused and delineated. Amazing sappines and such finesse. So juicy and fresh. Still a zygote but this will develop over next few days and hours. So brilliant and only showing 10% of what it is. I will be back. Wow now with air it’s soaring. Herbal, spicey, mineral and mid season cherries. So brilliant. Palate is so nimble, pure, sappy and fresh. Crunchy, red-fruited and with elegant dusty tannins. Bright bing cherry on the nose now. Soaring. So fresh and energetic. Still needs mega air after 3 hours for fruit to became more defined.

After a day this is crazy good. Nose is white chocolate and cherries. So detailed. Herbal and mineral. Palate is silly, rich and energetic. Sappy and so dense yet all silk.

Really come out of its shell. Meaty, feral and minty nose. Also so much limestone and it’s so prevalent. Such a great nose. 50% N Rhone, 50% Baden. Palate is fresh and energetic with terrific intensity and gorgeous early season blackberry fruit and just insane juiciness. Powdery tannins and extraordinary fruit character. This is an easy 9.5 and will only improve over the days and hours. Now this is something with air and had a glorious velvety texture and melty tannins. — 22 days ago

Quite bold and extracted reminds me of Denis Mortet. Essentially at the same level - and blind I would guess this is a Burgh. Dark cherry, hint lime, graphite, back palate sour green apple, seems closed and might need more air. Stylistically I prefer E&M. After days under Argon mellowed out and further improved +1. — 3 months ago

Ridiculous Rhini! What a nose. Red cherries and berries galore. You can smell the density. Gorgeous soil and limestone tones. Unreal expansiveness and so so aromatic. Just a crazy nose that has so much breadth. The clarity, purity and pinosity are off the charts. Palate is tangy and tense and as usual at chez Ziereisen it needs mega air but the structural architecture is there. A very red fruited expression of Pinot which seems to be the new direction this estate’s Pinots are going in which I am here for. Lovely bitter herbals on the nose now. Great freshness and acidity but needs to fill out. It will. I’ll be back. Fruit getting sweeter with air that classic hidden Rhini structure. Now with air the nose is super spicy and complex . Herbal and spicey. Fruit is so much sweeter and is like a squeegee on the palate and clings to the palate. So clean on the backend. Huge quality change on day 2. Nose is denser and cleaner with rich cherry fruits, pine resin, black forest vibes and spice. Wow. A 9.7 nose today. Palate is elegant and dense with that unreal Rhini elegant yet substantial structure and crazy complexity. Big but very very fine tannins. 9.5 to 9.6 overnight. — 4 months ago
