Domaine des Chers Vieilles Vignes Julienas Gamay 2020

Solid Cru Beaujolais. Medium garnet color. Bright aromas of ripe red and black cherries, earth and violets. Expressive flavors of red and black cherry/raspberry/currant fruit, tobacco and a pleasant hint of baking spices. A bit of black pepper and the presence of stemmy carbonic maceration on the very long and tingly finish. Quite juicy and crisp. Fruit forward, nicely structured and pretty well balanced. — 10 days ago

Quite the evocative sensory image. I’ll have to add that to my glossary of wine terms.

Cuvée Aux Petites Noix Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2016

The 2016 “Cuvèe Aux Petites Noix” pours a very pretty ruby color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of tart and ripe red fruits: raspberries, strawberries, cherry, and some warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+. A lovely wine showing well in its early drinking window. To my palate, better after 2031 and through 2041. — 8 months ago

Les Faconnières Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2010

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of lunch. The 2010 “Les Falconnières” pours a garnet color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with light staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with notes of ripe and slightly desiccated red fruits: strawberries, raspberries, red flowers, mushrooms, forest floor, warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. This is in a really lovely spot. drink now through 2035. — 9 months ago
