Took a while to open up. Purple berry fruits, olive, meaty with peppery and gunpowder notes on the nose. Elegant round tannins were still very youthful and grippy. Sweet cassis, pepper, olive tapenade and gamey flavors on the palate. High acidity and well-structured. Could have given it some more time in the cellar. — 6 years ago
Very basic, delicious rosé. Low sulfites. — 6 years ago
I will preface this note by disclosing that I am generally not a fan of Super Tuscans. I like old school Toscana. But I will try to be objective here. The nose is very evocative of a classified growth Bordeaux: lots of cedary, gravelly scents and some dark berry fruit underneath. In the mouth it is concentrated and soft, but develops weight in the back half of the palate. Some peppery heat from alcohol at the end too. I know it’s predominantly Sangiovese, but it really does taste very Left Bank, except for a little note redder fruit at the end. — 8 years ago

Cinnamon attack, fine grained tannin. Lucious oak is robust at first and lingers. Juniper berry, thyme, Asian pear appears after 90 mins. After 2 hours in the decanter bright cherry gives way to goji berry, mid palate while showing good weight. Oak tannin finding its place while oak flavor continues to linger at lower intensity. Not bad for such a soft vintage at 7 years! — 9 years ago

Crazy awesome. Tons of black pepper, smoke, tobacco and bacon fat. Luscious dark fruits. Very fruit forward palate. Waaaaaay too young. — 11 years ago
Loved this. Not too rich, and yet still distinctly "chard." — 11 years ago

This is outstanding. Quite a revelation. Honeyed, citrus, ample in the mouth and a very long finale. A steal. — 8 years ago

Always a winner :) — 10 years ago
Very nice pinot noir but not traditional by pinot standards. Very clean and complex. Layers of great berry fruit and spice. Interesting textures. Very pleasant finish. — 12 years ago
A dense glass-staining purple, the '06 Charles Smith Syrah 'Royal City' is a monumental wine. Big, pungent aromas of game, truffles, black olives and dried fruits exploded from the glass. Complex, but still seamlessly balanced. The tastes stayed on the palate for a seemingly infinite length of time. Simply wonderful! — 13 years ago
Light sweet and crisp more of a spring time wine than a fall but would definitely get again! — 10 months ago

Stands out with its finish. Fruit forward nose that tails into lingering notes. — 9 years ago
Intense raspberry on the nose with hints of smoke. Amazed how time has tamed this wine. Rich and lush red fruit this has successfully transformed itself. Reverberated in every nook and cranny of my mouth Carries its alcohol effortlessly. Last of 3 bottles and this one was head and shoulders better than the previous 2. — 10 years ago

A wonderful expression of Merlot primarily that ticks all the boxes- cigar, dark berry and earthy roots. Brilliant — 9 months ago
