Sweet spices and berries, charred wood on the nose. On the palate, juicy black cherries, toast, charred wood, crispy leaves/branches, long finish.

Pepper. Pencil lead. Revisit in 20. And don’t open if you have it because it’s only going to get better.

Chosen from the wine list in advance and decanted 1 hour before serving. It’s beautifully textured with great lift, purity and balanced acidity representing the vintage well. It’s not the most deep or structured of vintages, it’s more about elegance than power. Ripe black and blue fruit, liquid stones, violets, spice and black pepper. Caresses the palate with a long, focused and vibrant finish.

Off the Frasca list in Boulder. Dark garnet, opaque. Luscious nose. Notes of black cherry, smoked meat, slate stone, blood oranges. With air some kirsch develops. Rich and round in the mouth. Tannins are in the background. With air this grew to show a bit of heat and the kirsch thing took over. Liked this more in the beginning. Probably in a funk right now.

Now at the seven year mark, the 2013 Jamet Cote Rotie is absolutely singing in its unbridled elegance. Silky and soft upon entry, the 2013 Jamet shows a pillowy effect as this artfully glides across the mid-palate. The lighter Provencale herb and white pepper tones meld with ripe raspberry and Bing cherry flavors. Bright, showing an intense sense of verve and tension, the long finish truly satisfies. While delightful at this stage, the 2013 Jamet Cote Rotie will have another decade or more ahead of it. This is truly one of the wines of the vintage. Drink 2020-2033- 95

Tight. Leave alone for now but if you do give it a vigorous decant

Round, rich and full but most of what is compelling about it is up front. It’s very youthful and needs time in the bottle to spread its wings. It’s clear why this is so sought after...it has something that feels extra gear but this was just a baby killing.

WNH event number two. Rhône varietal wines with TX BBQ...a match made in Heaven!

Enjoyed this towards the end of lunch as it seemed to be on he heavier side. If I tasted blind, I may have gone with WA state Syrah...there was a richness to this that translates to bacon, ripe black and blue fruit. Less red fruit and spice but more fig, bayleaf and blackberry. Not herbal or funky (olive like) but the concentration and power here is impressive. Youthful. Will be dreamy stuff in the next few years! Well done

Dominated by ripe red fruit right now - don’t open for a few
