Parked the Sam Odi, and went for this.
Restrained Napa cab masquerading as a Bdx. Extremely well done. — 4 years ago
Thank you for having us @Fraser McKinley. Absolute legend. — 6 years ago

Whoa mama! I think I might have found a near-rival to the Sami-Odi. Emphasis is on 'near.' This wine has POWER. Next to a 2012 Lillian, it just seemed to have more going on. This one in my opinion does not go to the savory meaty side, and is maybe a little bit more to the fruit side. Powerful black fruit, baking spices, nutmeg, caramel apple, plums, hint of grilled meat that I was getting more on the finish. Also quite peppery on the finish. Really nice. This one could probably be cellared for another decade at a minimum, but a really nice wine opened tonight! — 7 years ago

Nothing to add to my previous note of May 11, 2019 nearly 3 years ago. I must admit I don’t see a lot of savoury development with time in cellar. They are delicious when you first open them and 3 years later, much the same with that solid core of old vine fruit and silky tannins still dominating proceedings. — 4 years ago

Not so fruity, light, on the drier side. Very drinkable. Would buy again to drink while cooking. Drank while making Pati Jinich’s chicken tinga with Sami in a severe heat wave/drought and record dangerous levels of AQI due to Canadian wild fires. — 4 years ago
Annual Man Cave dinner. 80+ wines accompanied by zebra, oryx, buffalo, bison and any other African meat you can imagine.
I bought some of these earlier this year but have been holding them. Luckily, someone brought a bottle so that I could check in on them. The nose on this blew me away...reminded me of a Sami-Odi wine in the way it was heavy, without being overbearing. Floral (violets, lavender) but also fruit (ripe, fresh squeezed blackberries) and smoked meat (mainly peppered strip). Love the low ABV (<13%). This is likely best enjoyed over the next 5 years. Wonderful bottle from @Arden Barnett . — 7 years ago
No formal notes. Rich plummy aromas and obviously the product of old vines. Standish has somewhat of a cult wine following in Australia and sells out quickly. I have a variety in my cellar covering 3 Cuvées but yet to open because of the youth of the wines. Rich without weight or heaviness - easy to love. I would argue no better than Sami Odi at less money for the latter. David Trumper, former Delectable correspondent, was a huge fan of Standish. — 4 years ago

Tasted twice. “Ruit Hora” is a line of poetry from the Odi Barbare collection of poems by Giosue Carducci and translates to “The Hour Hastens.” A blend of 65% Merlot, 25% Cab Sauv, 5% Petit Verdot & 5% Syrah. Aromas of dark fruits and pleasant noticeable spice. On the palate blackberry and sweet cherry, cacao and vanilla flavors. Nicely balanced, soft tannins, opened quickly, lingering ending with fruit and gentle smoky oak. Very Nice! — 6 years ago

This is a new Cuvée for Sami-Odi called Our Hill. Label says OH. Notes later. A brilliant wine from the Eden Valley. Delectable only just identified this wine which I drank 27 weeks ago which is totally acceptable because even by Fraser’s standards of eccentric labelling, the Our Hill is ultra eccentric and rare. Only 815 bottles filled and a limit of only 3 bottles per client. An interesting experiment as the fruit came from the Eden Valley from old Shiraz blocks from 4000 cuttings from friends of Fraser’s. Top quality and unique is all I can remember from 27 weeks ago. — 4 years ago
