BBQ & Zin night!
This was served too warm for my liking, especially alongside the hot TX BBQ, so it was tough to get everything out of it, but it was still youthful and powerful. Mainly red and black fruits here, with some sweet oak. Not quite jammy but not quite peppery. Good balance. — 6 years ago
It is big yes, it is hot yes. But it also has structure and a fresh fruitiness that is really appealing. A well made wine — 8 years ago
1990 Chateau Rayas Syrah. Decanted 1 hr before serving and it needed every minute of it. Light in color, but rich in flavor. Continued to open up throughout dinner. Initial taste upon opening bottle was iffy: we thought it tasted “hot” and might have been improperly stored at some point. However, as the wine evolved in the decanted, this unpleasant thin and hot feel at the end went away. Roses, black plum, strawberry, licorice, black olives. K picked up more of the fruit. I picked up more of the salty notes. Delicious! — 5 years ago
It has been a hot minute since I’ve had Amarone, and boy have I missed this. So silky and rich. It’s not necessarily sweet, but it begs for dark chocolate. Yum. YUM! — 7 years ago
Smells of Thai basil,
Continues into the wine, with eucalyptus, squid ink, intensely deep, rich and as usual very well made.
This wine strikes a great balance in the holy trinity of fruit - acid - oak.
This wine is hot, yet does not show it off at all.
Loong finish, dark unsweetened fruits.

Been drinking this wine since 2005, first release. Still a quality wine for a quality price. — 7 years ago
Super hot. But really good. — 8 years ago
Hot and jammy, but no faults, good stuff — 8 years ago
Gorgeous. This is chocolate covered cherries with fine grained tannins, beautiful structure and balance. This was a fun wine to drink on my night off. Mama has the kids and I’m halfway through this with nothing but PTI and Sportcenter in front of me. Life is grand!!! @David T thanks for the great review and suggestion! Saving the other bottle for 2029. You’re welcome to join me. Hope you like MN Vikings. — 6 years ago
Very good, though wish I’d opened this sooner—not fruit forward as I’d prefer. Still, great fleshy red and black fruit, a real beauty. Fair warning: this one’s fairly hot (15.8%) but doesn’t taste it at all. — 7 years ago
Dense dark ruby almost black. A little closed after the initial decant. Coconut Oak and ripe black fruits. A big full bodied palate with the ripe fruit hiding the 16% Alcohol. Finishes with supple smooth tannins. A great wine for Winter - you could not drink this on a hot day. Easy to like and the best value of their many Cuvees - this is a good formula for Mollydooker. Not sure I could take more density and concentration like the Velvet Glove. Will have a bottle of the Carnival of Love in a few weeks. — 7 years ago
Fruit is impeccable, but wish it to be a little less hot. — 8 years ago
Super hot and really tannic. Cherry fruit. Great alone. Excited to see what the future holds for this one — 8 years ago
The best, pound for pound, in the Turley stable. Vibrant but balanced, just hot enough to be Zinfandel. And it opens beautifully and quickly. More please — 8 years ago

Classic Pegau style, a nod to tradition with WC ferm but some pushing from an extraction standpoint. Deep, dark, savory and operating on a lower wavelength. Not an aromatic expression of CNdP, but wholesome and shows its character in its riches on the palate. Muddled red and black fruits, from berry/plum to fig/prune, leather, tar, roasted espresso, garrigue, hot stones and iron, rich in brett but working well the wine. This was a night 2 wine, it needs some obviously time to let its layers unfold. 2016s have a certain edge and lift to them for me, this almost aligned more with the ‘15 vintage given its tenacity and strength — 5 years ago
