Benton-Lane

Willamette Valley Pinot Noir 2011

Happy National Pinot Noir Day! I am celebrating by opening the 2011 Benton-Lane Estate Grown Pinot Noir Willamette Valley.

On the nose there is nice red fruit, cherry, strawberry, cranberry, menthol, cola and a touch of funk.

The palate shows the red fruit that is on the nose, tart strawberry, cherry, cranberry, cola, clove, wet leaves and a bit of dry soil.

This is a light bodied wine with medium to + acidity and medium fine luscious tannins that coat the tongue which leads to a nice medium to long fruit filled finish. I hope everyone is enjoying Pinot Noir Day as I am and please as always be safe. Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

National Rosé day, so might as well enjoy the blistering TX heat with a TX rosé from @Ron Yates !

@Delectable Wine : This is the Ron Yates Grenache rosé, not the Sangiovese.

Similar in color to the RY Cinsault rosé. Smells of rhubarb tart, red and orange fruit skins, and an herbal spice which I find typical of Grenache rosés. Nice acidity, more so than the Cinsault. Floral on the palate with bing cherry & cantaloupe.

Hundred Acre Vineyard

Kayli Morgan Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2008

Another favorite on mine! Color - a purplish red magenta. Nose - Blue fruit, crushed rock and vanilla burst in scent from the glass—a stewed meat, spice, cedar menthol lingers. Taste - dark blueberry fruit with a dark tart cherry following. A silky feel as it coats the mouth—cream brûlée notes float giving the wine a subtle sweetness. At the mid-pallet pepper dry herbs and cedar-spice give it a long dry finish. A great evening to celebrate national wine and cheese day—yum yum. — 5 years ago

Rubentis Getariako Txakolina Hondarrabi Beltza Hondarrabi Zuri Rosé Blend 2017

On the Lawn at Tanglewood this afternoon with the Boston Symphony Orchestra. Our conductor Andris Nelsons is leading MENDELSSOHN (Symphony No. 4, Italian), BEETHOVEN (Piano Concerto No. 1) with Yuja Wang on piano and BERNSTEIN (Chichester Psalms) accompanied by the Tanglewood Festival Chorus.

Lime-Cherry-Strawberry, Cherry-Lime-Strawberry, Strawberry-Cherry-Lime... Take your pick all notes apply to nose and palate. Good, but still not as good as '16. Plenty more to go, so maybe in a year this will be better? See my prior notes.

La Bottière Juliénas Gamay 2016

An overwhelming cherry festival. The nose is cherry and earth. The palate is a model of balance with a nice acid backbone and cherry all over the place. The wine is quite ample too. No real tannins to speak of and a long finish with ... cherry. Superb beaujolais — 8 years ago

Warre's

Tercentenary Vintage Port 1975

It's not everyday that one gets to party 8 hours at the most incredible music festival hearing nostalgic greats such as Tom Petty, House of Pain and Michael Franti and then arrive home to drink their birth year of Vintage Port. Alcohol is strong but dried sour cherry fruits and lilacs balance out this well aged but can last another 40 years wine. (Or am I hoping that I last another 40 years???) #bottlerock #warres #birthyearwine — 8 years ago

Red Malgas Syrah Blend 2015

Bright and upfront in the nose. Fried-salted chili, toasted rice, light game (light as in, pheasant). Exotic blend of grapes, but somehow...tastes just like a blend of them, savory cherry of Syrah, leather-earth tannins of Mourvèdre, with a gush of funky blackberry fruit ala touriga national. Balanced. Have no idea how it will age, but I’d be interested to see. — 5 years ago

Cheers! National drink wine day(Feb 18) so we must imbibe!!!!
3 hour decant (some chunky/cloudy sediment). A deep dark garnet color. On the nose: cherry, crushed rock, blackberry, floral, ending with creme brulee. Taste: Rich with round tannins, black fruit, licorice, tar, and a chocolate graphite medium plus finish......drinking well but it could use just a few more years to fully come together.

Brief tasting notes from the annual Fort Worth Food & Wine Festival. Whites knocked it out of the park this year.

Nice surprise running in to
@Ron Yates at the festival tonight! @Shawn R , we spoke about you!

A very unique blend...Tempranillo, graciano, merlot, Cabernet. Nose is very fruit focused with bing cherry and blackberries, but the palate is quite Bordeaux like. Picked up some herbal nuances, leather, and lighter than I expected. I’ve heard Ron makes great wine so this was my first intro...looking forward to trying more!

@Shay A Random - Do you have any recommendations for good wine shops up here in Fort Worth? Retail, that is.

@Ryan Vento : I’d recommend Kent & Co off Magnolia in Fort Worth. Wine bar but they also do retail...great/hard to find bottles. Same with Cadillac Wines (it’s in a Cadillac car dealership...tiny wine shop, great wines!). Put A Cork In It off University has more off the beaten path wines.

Enderle & Moll

Buntsandstein Pinot Noir 2015

Happy National Wine Day! This producer was of interest to me after seeing Carla's post a couple of weeks ago. I don't find many good Pinot's out of Germany. Especially, out of Mosel. I've never understood why they persist in growing Pinot in a very marginal climate in blue slate when it prefers limestone. After researching this Baden producer, I purchased a bottle through the app. I like to support them from time to time. In reading about Enderle & Moll, I found that the winery is really only the two of them that make a very small production of wines. Basically, two Grand Cru Pinots and this is one of them. They also produce some small amounts of; Müller-Thurgau, Auxerrois, Weissburgunder and Grauburgunder. They only have a few hectares of vines but are already getting a lot of attention in Germany and now the International stage. A number of German's consider them the best producers of Pinot Noir made in Germany. The Enderle & Moll Pinot vines are amongst the oldest in Baden. They also get their barrels from Dujac in Burgundy that are from 1-5 years in age. On the nose, sweet dark cherries with a little touch of sourness. Strawberries, dark raspberries, dry cranberries, black cherry licorice/cola, light presence of dark spices, dry brown earth with a touch of black earth and bright red florals. The body starts light, fresh and thickens as the M tannins and earth take hold. Ripe, bright fruits of; dark cherries, strawberries, dry cranberries, dark raspberries & pomegranate. Black cherry cola/licorice, light dark spices with some heat, powdery sticky chalkiness, soft yet grippy minerals, powder of dry crushed rocks, dark moist earth & bright red & pink florals. The wine is lean, fresh, clean and quite nice with high acidity. While I had slightly higher expectations from my research, this is still a very nice Pinot and certainly one of the better ones I've had out of Germany. Photos of, one of their Baden vineyards, Sven Enderle and Florian Moll, their very small cellar and a example of Bunter sandstone similar to what's in their Buntsandstein Vineyard. — 8 years ago

@David T You enjoyed too young, but in the name of science you persisted. Their lower-tier Spät's aren't ready to enjoy fully IMO, now. This is near the top of their range, with only one bottle better, it's a blend of their top sites. Heck, their Spät rosés need almost as much time as the red counterparts. You could have easily forgotten this bottle for 8-10 and it'd likey still be showing quite fresh.

@Severn Goodwin Thanks. This was my first experience with this producer and there are more of bottles resting in my storage for the appropriate time of environment.
