La Dominode Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2011

Embarrassed to blind-call this a Cote du Rhône but the fruit was so out front. A great SLB at 13 years! — 5 months ago

Always humbling. So much overlap between Grenache and Pinot.

Rive Gauche-Rive Droite Grand Cru Extra Brut Champagne Blend 2010

Nose has warmed stone fruits, warmed margarine, green apple peel, moist maple wood and crushed limestone.

Palate has under-ripe tangerine, yellow apple flesh, candied orange, day old lemon wedge, minor barrel influence and light acidity. Gentle in the mouth, very fine bubbles, happy.

Drinking quite nicely. Be sure to decant or pour a half hour early to let it open up. Drink now. Paired with grilled pork tenderloin. — 6 months ago

Les Encégnières Chassagne-Montrachet Chardonnay 2013

Perfectly evolved, expressive with nice richness & yet restraint and minerality.
Rich on the nose with ripe pear, green pineapple, (over)ripe lemons, a whiff of papaya. Plus a good dose of crème brûlée, some matchstick reduction and a fresh, chalky, minty element adding freshness. So enticing.
Starts rich & broad on the palate with ripe, sweet exotic fruit and some brioche, vanilla pastry notes. The taut lemony acidity cuts through and tightens there frame. And then the chalky, stony mineral kicks in adding depth & complexity. Rich yet with depth, character & elegant complexity.
I was fearing premox but this has aged beautifully and is peaking right now. What a joy!

Les Charmes Morgon Gamay 2017

Smoky minerals, black cherry, orange peel, violets, spice cake, licorice- just a few notes. There’s a lot going on here and it’s intensely satisfying. Grainy tannins, very lengthy finish. Just a superb young Morgon with effortless style and composure whose best years are still well ahead. — 5 years ago
