Cheers to experiencing Apalta’s beauty in the glass! 🇨🇱 🍷
💯 This is the 2018 Clos Apalta, an iconic wine produced by Domaines Bournet-Lapostolle.
Apalta is located in the Colchagua Valley, which stretches from the Pacific coast 🌊 to the Andes mountains 🏔️ , offering a wide diversity of microclimates from west to east.
It benefits from a long growing season that is generally warm & dry, with plentiful sunshine ☀️ , supporting development of color in the grape skin, ripening of tannins, & accumulation of sugar (that will become alcohol through fermentation)… 🍇
The subregion of Apalta is nestled into a south-facing amphitheater, capturing cool breezes from the west, which, together with a higher elevation, help preserve acidity in the grapes lending freshness & balance to the final wine. 🍷
This is a Bordeaux blend made with 64% Carménère, 18% Cabernet Sauvignon, & 18% Merlot grown on one of the oldest vineyards for Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenère in Chile. 😮
Fermentation took place in a blend of 75% large French oak vats and 25% new French oak barrels. 🪵
It also matured 25 months in a combination of new and second use French oak barrels, imparting vanilla, cedar, sandalwood, chocolate, clove, and sweet baking spice notes, next to violet, black cherry, cassis, plum, mulberry, graphite, kalamata olive, leather, tobacco, roasted bell pepper, & tarragon. 🎶 — 12 days ago
Worth waiting for. Nice Malbec. — 3 months ago
2018 vintage. Léoville-Poyferré-involved concern. 73% Malbec 18% Cabernet Sauvignon 5% Petit Verdot 3% Syrah 1% Cab Franc. 100% delicious. Medium/medium-heavy body. Nice balance of grip/zip and sleeko suave. Can hold its own in a street fight now or be the scheduled, 12-round, main event in 2040-your choice. $28.85 resto cost on 3 cases. 14.5% ABV. Definite big red blend value contender. 04.13.25. — 4 months ago
Deep ruby in color; cassis, black plums, and cedar on the nose; high acidity; medium plus tannins; tastes like blackberries, black cherries, and graphite with a long finish. Nellie says it's ok. I like it. — 3 months ago
Faint fuscia and apricot on the nose, fruity on the palate. Medium full body. Delightful. — 3 months ago

A fairly ambitious Malbec blend with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc. Dry on the palette with flavors of plum, blackberry, licorice, bitter tobacco, earth, coffee, with raisins and cherry Ludens on the finish. With each sip I can pick out every grape, if I try real hard. Quite tannic, and my 2nd glass will be in an hour or more, after it catches its breath.
A very enjoyable bargain!
