Smoke, pepper, chocolate, and oak over blackberry and fig. Starting to bleed the deep dark red color from the edges. Rich and smooth. Paired perfectly with my filet. — 4 years ago
As always this is wonderful! Big wine..smooth as silk..fig..pencil lead..expresso..blackberries..dark chocolate..cassis...earth...eucalyptus and vanilla!
Nice long finish! Will hold on to the next one for another year or so but absolutely no regrets opening this now such a great Cabernet Sauvignon blend! — 4 years ago
The 1982 Léoville Poyferré has long been one of my favorite Saint-Julien wines, and this does not disappoint. Dark in color, it has a gorgeous bouquet of mulberry, raspberry, melted tar and rose petal aromas, and a little exoticism courtesy of a dab of fig. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and quite dense black fruit that merges with blue fruit in the latter half. There is fine backbone to this Saint-Julien, which reveals cedar and graphite toward the fresh, convincing finish. Bottles are just reaching their peak, while large formats will last many more years. Tasted blind at "Xmas" lunch in London. (Neal Martin, Vinous, December 2019)

Fig, raisin, chocolate, caramel, all of the best things you can think of are in this Sherry. Wowzas. — 6 years ago
Drinking like a French Pinot, the bouquet is evocative of cherries, strawberries, tea, forest floor, and crushed crushed flower, while the pallet shines with black cherry, tea, hints of cinnamon and allspice, and earth. A consummate exemplar of Willamette Valley. Get 1 of the 200 cases while you can. — 8 years ago
Surprisingly alive with dried fig, a bit of black cherry & kirsch, some Balsamico. Sweet-savoury yet still quite fresh.
On the palate quite evolved with the tannins very mellow. Orange peel acidity with some balsamic fruit. Sweet & savoury.
I didn’t expect this to last 15y. But it did and is such a pleasant surprise. — a year ago
Classic Pegau style, a nod to tradition with WC ferm but some pushing from an extraction standpoint. Deep, dark, savory and operating on a lower wavelength. Not an aromatic expression of CNdP, but wholesome and shows its character in its riches on the palate. Muddled red and black fruits, from berry/plum to fig/prune, leather, tar, roasted espresso, garrigue, hot stones and iron, rich in brett but working well the wine. This was a night 2 wine, it needs some obviously time to let its layers unfold. 2016s have a certain edge and lift to them for me, this almost aligned more with the ‘15 vintage given its tenacity and strength — 4 years ago
Wednesday Wine Committee. Great hosting by Gavin. 1 sparkler, 4 whites, 4 reds and 2 dessert wines. All served blind as usual.
Roasted chestnuts, cinnamon, old raspberry fig and a surprising amount of heat on the nose and palate. Shocked the alcohol is that prevalent at this age! Mellowed a bit slightly in the glass, and the added notes of graham cracker and potpourri became noticeable. I called this 40yr port. — 4 years ago
Amazing! Great value to drink now or store for years.
AROMAS: dark fruits, herbs, candied roasted vanilla, a hint of fresh baked cherry crumble. Cassis, cerise, fig, plum, leather, cedar
TASTE: med to med high acidity, med tannins, med to full bodied, nicely balanced. Cerise and toasted vanilla, great undergrowth notes and black red fruits. Simply superb.
-decant 30 min to longer, tasting throughout.
-storage, now to 10 years — 5 years ago
WNH Southern gathering hosted by @Mike R and old Heitz vertical (70,74,85) sourced by @Martin G Rivard (from Benchmark) who also contributed some on his own dime. This ‘70 started with a wet cardboard musty nose and a slightly hollow mid palate and astringent finish. As the evening evolved and the steak showed up the wine did a complete 180. More tannins than fruit but it was a structured beauty that may not be at it’s peak but is still a gorgeous wine. Ripe plum, stewed fig, bayleaf. I didn’t get any eucalyptus from this but there’s a strong earthy, old world with a CA spin vibe. After dinner and before the fire pit some of us finished the decanter of this and were impressed at how it was still ascending hours after being opened. — 7 years ago
A surprise addition of the night. A great blend, about 75% Cab, 14% merlot with CF and PV filling in the remainder. Plum, blackberry and fig show through nicely. Touches of vanilla. — 2 years ago
Dropped a lot of sediment on decant as you’d expect. Threw off tons of great floral and fruit aromatics while decanting.
Tried pop n pour at cellar temp. There’s tension here for a 20 year old wine. It’s nice. Fruit is hiding a little. There’s a black olive thing that is consistent with other aged SMs that usually blows off. Will update after trying again at hour 2.
At 2 hours it’s singing. Black olive blew off and replaced with black raspberry, currant, fig, and blackberry. Nose is cigar box, floral, and a hint of perfume. Tannins are grainy and well integrated throughout. This is great and has plenty of time left. Will not make the three hour mark! — 3 years ago
Annual guys WTF Christmas party with spouses. Lots of great wine. I’ll post my highlights with pics I got.
One of the best CdPs I’ve had to date. Impeccably balanced, with everything in total harmony. Lots of spicy red fruits up front like rhubarb, with fleshy black cherry skin, fig, currant, savory meats and tobacco leaves. So much energetic and lively acidity on the palate with tangy and sappy fruits, tar, more black cherries, and cracked black pepper. So good! Thanks @Colby Siratt . — 4 years ago
CADE 2014 cabernet sauvignon from Howell Mountain. Well. You know what Im going to say... Good God Almighty! What an incredible 2014 Cali Cab! It opens with an explosion of blackberry and blueberry and dark currant. With a hint of fig in the background. Then ever so smoothly comes the buttery velvet mid palate. Followed by big OAK and SMOKE. Followed by the sprinkling of spice and black pepper. The finale is a semi dry pavement of deliciousness that a NASCAR driver would drool over. And no I’m not talking beer and whiskey! - Dr Todd and Herron Family Wines. — 5 years ago
I'm not a Pinot Noir lover, probably because they cost too much for a good one, but received this as a gift and really liked it. — 7 years ago

Garnet red in color. Offering nose and palate of dark cherry, herbs, leather, cedar, tobacco, prune, fig, vanilla and dill. Structured and long. A very good effort and a favorable pvr. — a year ago
