Fortified to 20°. N:Shoe leather, salt, treacle, ripe fruits, plantains, caramel lozenges, distant boats.faint barrel smoke.
P: old oranges, marmalade, puckering citrus, rinds, brown sugar, ( Demerara), so acidic and contrapuntally rich.
A feast.

Interesting bottle of Oloroso from the Lustau Almacenista bottlings, intense notes of dates and walnuts, while being bone dry, but it really comes to the fore with a bit of tapas, which softens and sweetens the sherry. Highly complex and fantastic to drink. — 8 years ago

8 hours or so decanted, double decanted, brought this around nicely. Again another wine this evening that only got better. Big, bold tempranillo that has some resolved, velvety tannin of a wine of 15+ years but the fruit of wine maybe 7-8 years old...mostly primary, but deep. — 4 years ago
Dark amber, very dry, high acidity, light-medium bodied. Toasted almonds, bitter green olives, a little oily, saline finish. You could probably drink this with just about any food and be in a good place. — 5 years ago
This is really good. A little sour with espresso bitterness, but a cashmere mouthfeel and nice lingering finish. Not a ton of fruit, gives the aroma of an older wine despite being a youngish vintage. — 6 years ago

Super nerdy producer who revives ancient (and often unnamed, such as in this case) Friuli varieties for production. This was medium + bodied with very slightly cooked red and black fruit, dried herb, smoky charcoal and wet concrete aromas and flavors. Medium tannins and medium-high acid create a structure that shows best with food (grilled duck leg quarters tonight). More substantial that I expected, and while I would have guessed this was Italian had I had it blind, I wouldn’t have had any idea which variety it was. NV | I am not thát fond about PX but this Lustau blew me away. Luscious smell, multi layered with dates and currants, very vibrant and elegant. It might be that the combination with an Italian chocolate cake, raspberries and berries contributed to my high appreciation. Happiness ☺️. Fantastic effort, very balanced — 5 years ago

Very nice slightly richer Lugana. Almonds, white flowers and fruit. Balanced with sneaky concentration. Had this with a selection of Sushis and it worked nicely with most of them. Think this would go nicely with Risotto — 8 years ago

Yang Yang ! Toasted Bitter almonds, hazelnuts, caramels, bitter dark chocolate, cedar but also mineral salty and flowers. Border line brandy that will please bourbons and whiskies drinkers alike….
