Malleolus de Valderramiro Tempranillo 2018

2018 vintage. Too much oak presence for this guy. Nicely made but needs a solid decade for the oak to dissipate and minimize presence. 3.24.23. — a year ago

Los Arcos Solera Amontillado Dry Sherry 1896

Yang Yang ! Toasted Bitter almonds, hazelnuts, caramels, bitter dark chocolate, cedar but also mineral salty and flowers. Border line brandy that will please bourbons and whiskies drinkers alike…. Complex and fascinating ! Served chill and make sure no one bothers you for a while … A treat for serious #gozones … If you happen to smoke premium cigars, this is next level! — 3 years ago

One of the best wine and food experiences I have had in San Francisco in a long time. Salty, flor filled, almost fruity, almost watery- right between Manzanilla and Jerez Fino! Awesome with Bellota cuisine! — 7 years ago

Venezie IGT Piculìt-Neri 2019

Enjoyed this somewhat exotic wine. Recommended by a sommelier at a wine shop. Apparently the grape was assumed extinct for 400 years until it was discovered growing on someone’s property in the 1980s. Taste is akin to a Nebbiolo. Blueberry and blackberry on the nose. Bright berries with balanced acidity and dryness. Would love to have again. — 2 years ago

3 En Rama Fino De El Puerto De Santa Maria Sherry Palomino Fino

One of the most unique finos I've ever had. Intriguing nose that calls to mind intense white burgundy like Leflaive or PYCM.

Three En Rama bottling, each from one of the three towns in the Triangle.

3 En Rama Fino De Jerez de la Frontera Sherry Palomino Fino 2015

This has the expected crisp/saline/briny qualities. There is a depth to the texture & freshness that makes this stand out among Fino bottlings. The pair with our scallops tonight is simply spot on. — 8 years ago

Wellington 20 Years VOS Palo Cortado Sanlúcar de Barrameda Palomino Fino

Da bomb, for sherry lovers: Palo Cortado versión. A shape shifter on the palate & ringing on the higher registers, this Hidalgo checks all the boxes for me, which includes a lightness & freshness heaven made for most food. Burnt pine cone & toffee bits, a subtle mushroom thing (oyster?), & a rather trim beef bouillon broth lurking on the back end. That may all be bs but it’s a wine that inspires….. — 2 years ago

La Panesa Fino Especial Jerez-Xérès-Sherry Palomino Fino

A very unusual Fino, aged in the solera system for an average of 15 years (much longer than most Finos, closer to an Amontillado). Deep golden color. Elegant nose with yeasty and nutty aromas. Intense on the palate. Almonds, bitter notes. Long finish — 3 years ago

Pastrana Single Vineyard Manzanilla Pasada Sanlúcar de Barrameda Palomino Fino

Exceptional single-vineyard Manzanilla. Bone dry with an agile depth and weight. After 12-14 years in the solera this has a nearly endless finish. Aged manchego, chorizo, Andalusian tripe - versatile and dramatically lovely — 7 years ago
