The 2016 Calon Ségur is dense and radiant on the palate, just as it was from barrel. Even with all of its intensity, the 2016 is distinguished by its sense of freshness, lift and nuance, much of which comes from the 18% Cabernet Franc in the blend. Sweet floral, spice and minty notes add aromatic intensity to a core of sweet red cherry and plum fruit. There is plenty of underlying structure, but the tannins are sweet, silky and perfectly ripe. In short, the 2016 Calon Ségur is a wine of pure and total sensuality. Technical Director Vincent Millet and his team did a tremendous job with the 2016. Tasted three times. 1989 vintage. One of the best Dunn’s I’ve had. Has held up great with that trademark dark cherry core still intact, and fruit followed by layers of earth and leather. Tannins are still there even after nearly 30 year but a great, layered and integrated wine. Excellent. — 7 years ago
Deep garnet red with ruby core. Tasted blind. Very tight and dark on the nose with dark cocoa, dark spices and soft dark berries. Heavy tannins (8/10) and full bodied. Very dark palate as well with black cherries, cassis, black currants, dark cocoa and a little woody. Long and lingering finish. Thought this was a bit older than a 2013 but powerful, needs some time to fully develop. Drink till 2032. (93+) — 7 years ago
Fun model but she's wasn't down to pose for the Delectable community and ducked away when I started to snap the pic haha....so this is for the elbow and shoulder lovers. The Core is a treat. Mocha and full blue/black fruits. A bit of bite when it warms up but a very nice wine. — 7 years ago
Purple core with small rim variation. Fresh black and blue fruit with olive tapenade, sage, and game. Clean winemaking. Bright acidity to keep it all in check. Could use a couple more years, although just fine now if you like tension in your wine. — 9 years ago
Earth, cherries, graphite. Lots of acidity and tannins. — 10 years ago
Soft and supple, almost velvety, featuring a core of red and black fruit, great purity, with touches of leather, herbs, and spice. Nice length, refined. — 2 years ago
From a great old looking bottle with a mid shoulder fill. Cork is fully saturated and the crud under the capsule had formed a strong seal. Slow-ox’d for a few hours, then decanted for an hour or two before taken to L’Escargot in Carmel. Amber tawny rims with a reddish tawny core. Crazy nose right from the start. Notes of sweet black cherries, tobacco leaf, plums, black pepper, ash and crusty wood, pencil shavings, some just unwrapped cigar and some menthol. Silky in the mouth with firm structure and soft but present acidity. Long and memorable finish. Outstanding performance over several hours. — 4 years ago
Made by superstar winemaker, Randy Dunn, of Dunn Vineyards, the 2017 ‘Feather’ by Long Shadows is a masterful effort from this exciting warmer vintage in Washington. Once on the nose there is a lovely round core of toasty oak that wraps around the rich dark fruits, sagebrush and chocolate fudge aromatics that all meld in the glass. The palate is silky smooth, revealing a round and generous mouthfeel. The seamless effect created mid-palate is utterly fantastic. Black currants and blackberry cordial dance with shades of Black Forest Cake and espresso bean on this highly complex palate. This finishes long with dark fruits and a beam of minerality. While enticing to savor now, the 2017 ‘Feather’ will have a long life ahead of it. If enjoying in its youth, be sure to afford a two hour decant prior to enjoying. Drink 2021-2040- 95 — 4 years ago
Might be the bottle but just a bit past its prime. Still good - sweet core, good acid, dark fruits. — 5 years ago
Gorgeous. Complex. Nice tannin trap at the end. — 7 years ago
375ml - Still great fruit intensity, slight green tinged, but showing oak influence at the core, will be great for another 20 years. — 7 years ago
Another level... Still dense at the core, with steady, attractive bricking: Wonderfully dense nose of blackcurrents, pencil shavings, fine tanned leather, and a hint of woodland floor (fine moss, leaves, and fresh soil after an autumn shower). Velvety tannins and great acidity. Along with the '66 this is one of my all-time favourite Bordeaux vintages. Seems to be keeping up better than the '61s I've had over the last few years!
We drank half of it from the coravin before waxing the top in case the cork had lost too much elasticity to self-seal. I'll have the rest with my brother in a few weeks' time! — 8 years ago
Classic '88.. Tannins very much in play. Big wine, with oak, iron, and brush. Still with very good color and a sweet core of fruit. Old school in every sense. — 9 years ago
I'm floored.. Seriously... Dark and brooding with masses of dried black cherry and cedar up front, yet beneath it, notes of exotic spice, tobacco, dried flowers, crushed raspberry, and undergrowth gained volume and depth with time in the glass, until they permeated the senses entirely. On the palate, soft, silky textures, which seem to hover on the senses, offset by a tart acid core, yet also complemented by enveloping bittersweet cherry, quinine, spice, and inner earth tones. The finish is incredibly long with saturating dried cherry fruit, sweet inner florals, hints of gruff tannin--yet juicy and fresh, with a note of hard red candies and licorice which seemed to literally last for minutes on the mid-palate. — 3 years ago
The 2003 Chateau Leoville Poyferre is a spectacular wine from this warm vintage in Bordeaux. The decadent, intense aromatics of tar, blackberry cobbler and mocha are brilliantly woven together with sandalwood and black tea undertones that take shape in the glass. Highly viscous and rich, yet maintaining good acidity, the dense mouthfeel adds a crescendo to the deep core of dark fruits and chocolate covered espresso bean that sing in harmony on the palate. Glorious to savor now, the 2003 Leoville Poyferre will cellar well for another decade. Drink 2020-2033- 95 — 4 years ago
Huge wine wine gobs fruit and mid level tannins. Still opening up after 2+ hours. Still quite young with deep dark fruit core which is not close to maturity. None the less s Classic Bordeaux.! Stunning complexity. — 5 years ago
Elegant and extremely perfumed, a nice juicy red fruit core featuring ripe cherries, raspberries, and strawberries, followed by dried lavender, meaty beef jus, orange peel, undergrowth, sweet tobacco, charcoal, and intense black pepper. Delicious sweet red fruit flavors on entry with some dried apricots that lead to a umami rich midpalate filled with meaty notes, iron, and a slightly saline minerality that intermingles with intense peppery notes that linger for some time. Incredible silky mouth feel on this midbodied red, very light in structure but intense in flavors. — 6 years ago
Second of the blind wines and gifted to us by @TheSkip. Thanks Steve!
Deep ruby red core and a tad lighter on the edges with a touch of sediment. Layered nose but not overpowering at all like other Bevans, notes of sweet spices, cinnamon and dark berries. Medium plus to heavy integrated tannins (7/10) with a touch of heat. Some jammy black fruits on the palate with some anise and a little vegetal. Full attack but thinned out before the finish. Vegetal notes took some time but blew off being some more dark berries to the palate. Medium to medium plus bodied with a long finish. Solid work in a touch vintage. Drink till 2021. — 7 years ago
Dark and deep ruby red with a purplish core. Dark brooding fruits on the nose with notes of sweet tobacco and baking spices. A bit of dark cherries too. Moderate tannins (6.5/10) and medium plus bodied. Needs some time to beef up and integrate a bit further. Lots of dark chocolate, a little savory, and tons of baking spices like vanilla extract and cinnamon. Some darker berries on the palate too. Long and lingering finish. Drink from 2018 till 2030. Regrettably the one Bodega I missed from a stomach bug on my trip last week, though I still love love you Spain and look forward to going back. Now back to the wine....
A beautiful ruby core with some orange and pink at the edges.
The nose is elegantly fruited, with dry flowers, cherry and American oak notes of coconut, dill and toast.
The palate is elegant, refined, while masterfully complex and persistent at the same time. The finish is long and crazy silky. One of the few GR from a very older producer that uses only proprietary fruit.

You would never pick this as a 26 year old red wine from the colour. A rich Ruby red with no tawny rim. This has the Penfolds DNA of ripe plum, mocha, coffee bean and chocolate - a trace of liquorice. The palate is medium plus weight, balanced and harmonious maintaining that core strength. Those initially firm tannins have become supple. Drinking at its peak but could stay on this plateau for a couple more years. My last bottle of the 96 but I still have a few more bottles of the Bin 707 from 1996 which was a huge wine. — 2 years ago
