Clos St. Jacques Vieilles Vignes Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Pinot Noir 2000

Tawny color with a meaty nose. Notes of black cherries, bing cherries, forest floor, herbs, smoked meat and moist dark earth. Nice fruit in the mouth. Good balance. Decent drink. — 3 years ago

Sankt Laurent 2017

Slight funk on the nose with hints of mushrooms. Leathery with slight acid to finish. Not much tannins so really good with light beef dishes (carpaccio and Tartarus, etc…). Good wine to have for dinner parties. — 4 years ago

Domaine Ponsot

Cuvée Vieilles Vignes Clos St. Denis Grand Cru Pinot Noir 2011

A bright crimson red. A dark cherry smoke earth nose; lingers with meaty pot soil minty notes. Initial taste— raspberry-cherry subtle vanilla flavors. Tannins and cedar softly grip the pallet, but a full body and well structured dry Pinot. Hints of earthy spice, wet leaves linger and should integrate nicely with the tannins and cedar medium plus finish. I’d give it several more years. Pairs nicely with the famous Zuni’s chicken recipe from San Francisco; made from our oven to the Thanksgiving dinner table during the stay at home 2020 year. — 5 years ago

Vieilles Vignes Vacqueyras Grenache Blend 2017

Ruby red color with a watery rim. Hint of large game blood, wet earth, and fresh dark cherries on the scent. Ripe dark fruit up front, sweet almost; followed by stern tannings and a dry finish. A young wine, medium body, almost light alcohol but with lots of character yet easy drinking. Unassuming wine, extremely enjoyable. One of those, great all-around, Southern Rhône blends... — 6 years ago

I’m not surprised coming from this producer, @Éric Núñez. I expect that this will further improve with age. Your thoughts?

Agree Ron. Will improve with age but taste good now as well. I’m torn between saving it and immoderate gratification.

Domaine Daniel Rion et Fils

Vieilles Vignes Nuits St Georges Pinot Noir 2010

Nose of hay, earth, vanilla, cherry, iron. Profound and complex. The palate is long and wide with cherry along a strong acid backbone. Silky touch on the sides. An oaky thing happening in there too. Strong persistence of the vanilla and cherry for an everlasting finish. What a village! — 7 years ago

Vieilles Vignes Gigondas Red Rhône Blend 2016

Quite contained 30 minutes after decanting. Stewed plums and black pepper. Very savoury and earthy on the palate - prunes showing through. Fine yet firm tannins to finish off. Good value coming from Gigondas. Love this style of wine. — 3 years ago

I adore this winery. Defined try their other wines, especially the Cote Rotie and CdP Cuvee Speciale (100% Grenache)

I bought the Gigondas in a mixed dozen all from the 2016 vintage. Will look forward to trying the Cote Rotie and the CdP in the near future.

Solid sipper - lighter in color & body, intriguing nose of strawberry & brambly red fruit, dried orange peel, herbaceousness, and hint of medicinal. Zippy & refreshing - went down easy (dry) — 4 years ago

Vieilles Vignes Saint Joseph Syrah 2017

Simultaneously generous with plummy fruit and savory, smoky notes across the nose & palate. Shows plenty of power, but has enough nuance & structure to keep it balanced. Will age nicely, but certainly approachable now. — 5 years ago

Waxy with a honey quality to it. Rich, lush mouthfeel. Loads of fragrance and flavor. However Not really my style. Needs food- I could see a big, creamy chicken dish. — 6 years ago

Vieilles Vignes Le Suchat Saint-Péray Marsanne 2014

Gorgeous out of the gates. Perfect elegant nose. Hard to describe. As it aerates gets more complex. Beeswax? Hay?

The palate is equally perfect. Dense with controlled richness. Like peach sorbet. Just covers the palate with elegant yum. Sorry if that’s a bit colloquial. Nicely mineral. Long finish. Super clean fruit. Not sure if this makes sense but one of the cleanest Rhône whites I’ve ever had. Very restrained for a northern Rhône wine.

Bought from fass selections.
