Banfi

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2018

Nice but not great. Was worried it would drink too much like a bruiser given the 15% abv and relatively young age - actually wasn’t too bad on that dimension. But, not quite the level of fruit, acid, and seamlessness I’d hope for. Wait on others. — 5 days ago

Oh so nice with a perfectly made Bolognese. Not at all too early. — 17 days ago

Tenuta Sette Ponti

Oreno Toscana Super Tuscan Blend 2019

It’s still too young for me but I wanted to pull one. Medium nose where I get a bit of green-ness. The finish is light and there is a bit of green on the palate as well. Hoping the rest get better with age. — a month ago

Even in its youth, I’d expect a better showing than what you experienced. This hailed from a strong vintage in Tuscany. I hope it puts on some weight for you.

Tenuta dell'Ornellaia

Le Serre Nuove dell'Ornellaia Bolgheri Rosso Merlot Blend 2021

Opens up with splash of plums, dark cherries, and apple. This is tempered by fig, anise and touch of smoke. There are bitter but light tannins that dominate the final notes. — 14 days ago

Argiano

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2018

2008 vintage. Decanted and tasted after two hours. Medium-heavy body. Juicy introduction with a firm, tannic handshake directly thereafter. Nice first impression of the 2018 tasting now but 3-5 years from now likely leads to a better opinion. 4.26.24. — 21 days ago

Valdicava

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 1990

If anything, it’s now better than the last time I had this vintage. It was balanced, broad and fun. Still lots of fruit — just amazing body and aroma without any distractions. That’s how Brunello should be! — 16 days ago

Gaja

Ca'Marcanda Promis Toscana Sangiovese Blend 2020

Wine is full bodied, purplish. On nose its violets, black cherries, cheedar, earthy. On palate, its sweet, little spicy, i can taste the brightness from sangiovese buts its more vegal to me. The structure, merlot balanced the syrah so it does mellowed the syrah attack. Long finish, tannic, give it 1 hour decant. Best after 2028.. cheers! 🍷 — 15 days ago

Fattoria di Fèlsina Berardenga

Fontalloro Toscana Sangiovese 1997

On the early side of peak. Really beautiful bottle, great condition. Skews more towards red fruit but I haven’t had this in a long time and it’s darker than I remember. — 15 days ago

Casanova di Neri

Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese 2019

Really very nice and giving quite generously even at this relatively young age. Good sign for 2019 in general. Great depth, nice darker red fruit and flowers, and good acid on the finish with some real seamlessness. Quite enjoyable. — a month ago

Masseto

Toscana Merlot 2018

Rare sighting. Lucky to drink them side by side. Both a bit young and powerful with so much aging potential. Massetino is mostly Merlot with some Cab Franc. Masseto is all Merlot. Distinctly different though. Massetino being the more robust and Masseto being the more elegant. Then again. So much potential. — a month ago
