Vigna Santa Lucia Barbera d'Alba 2022

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of two days. Fairly consistent throughout but better on Day 1 to my palate where the freshness carried the day. The 2022 “Vigna Santa Lucia” pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. On the nose, the wine is developing with wonderful notes of fig, plum, old attic, dried wildflowers, and organic, iron rich earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is medium+ with ferrous minerals. A positively lovely Barbara d’Alba that effortlessly draws one’s attention. Drink now through 2032. Open, then closed, then wide open and now 7 hours later it’s closed but man it is all there. Big tannins, stunning, dramatic fruit and silken texture. Unreal mineral finish. — 2 months ago

@Jay Kline yes it was open for 30 minutes, then closed, then hugely open, then open again today!

San Bartolomeo Dolcetto d'Alba 2023

Popped and poured; enjoyed over the course of several hours. The 2023 “San Bartolomeo” pours a deep ruby color with a transparent core; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears. This really needed air and showed better after an hour+ of being open. What unfurled was an elegant and quite beautiful expression of Dolcetto showing notes of fresh black berries, blueberries, purple flowers with the stems, a mix of dried herbs and warm spices with dry gravelly earth. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium tannin and medium acid. Confirming the notes from the nose, the finish is medium+ and slightly savory. A precise and technically brilliant Dolcetto. Drink now through 2030. Thanks for the assist @Lyle Fass — 18 days ago

Santa Lucia Barbera d'Alba 2017

Beautiful dark berry fruit nose. Palate doesn’t quite carry the same depth or intensity. Hits hard at the front but fades more quickly than expected. Still, nice food pairing wine with the low tannins and medium plus acid. 14.5%. — a month ago

Moscato d'Asti 2021

Sparkling, clear pale lemon; on the nose, it's clean with pronounced primary and tertiary aromas of bruised yellow apples, honeysuckle, and orange blossom; on the palate, it's sweet with medium acidity, low alcohol, medium body, and pronounced primary and tertiary flavors of overripe pear, tangerine, and caramel with a long finish. This wine is complex, intense, and balanced. Overall, I rate this wine as outstanding. Nellie likes it with too. It paired well with spicy Popeyes chicken. — 5 hours ago
