9.3

Tasted this on my recent trip to France and again tonight. Baby Côte-Rôtie nose of violets, high-toned florals and blackberry. Soft, juicy and creamy on the palate, with bright ripe tannins, beautiful texture and absurdly pure fruit. A one-note wine, but what a fucking note. Astonishing value. — 16 hours ago

Very nice, esp for $23. Well balanced, light body. Real complexity if you savor and swirl. But very easy drinking too. 13.5% al. I think Nebbiolo? Buy again. — 4 years ago

Rombauer Vineyards

Carneros Chardonnay 2024

Founded in 1982 by Koerner and Joan Rombauer and sits on a tree covered knoll overlooking the Napa Valley, with caves that extend for over a mile. Pale lemon color with aromas of stone and tropical fruit, sweet oak, spice and floral scents. On the palate flavors of ripe peach, melon and apple, with vanilla spice, creamy texture. Medium+ finish, well balanced with acidity, ending with mineral notes. — 5 months ago

Caves Ropiteau Freres

Meursault Chardonnay 2023

Ropiteau Frères – Meursault – 2023
Meursault AOP – Côte de Beaune – Burgundy – France 🇫🇷

Overview
A classic expression of Meursault Chardonnay, showcasing the richer, broader style of the Côte de Beaune. The 2023 vintage leans into ripeness and texture while maintaining balance, delivering a layered and refined interpretation of this iconic village.

Aromas & Flavors
Stone fruit leads the profile, ripe peach and apricot, supported by baked apple and subtle citrus. Notes of toasted hazelnut, light vanilla, and a gentle touch of oak add complexity without overwhelming the fruit.

Mouthfeel
Medium to full-bodied with a broader, more enveloping texture. Creamy yet balanced by fresh acidity, creating a harmonious and polished palate. The finish is smooth, layered, and persistent.

Food Pairings
Lobster, scallops, roasted chicken, creamy pasta, or mushroom-based dishes. Also shines with richer seafood preparations.

Verdict
A sophisticated and well-balanced Meursault that captures the essence of Côte de Beaune richness, textured, layered, and quietly complex. Elegant without being heavy.

Did You Know?
Meursault is famous for its nutty, buttery nuances, often enhanced by lees aging and oak influence, yet the best examples, like this, keep everything in balance rather than leaning too rich.

🍷 Personal Pick
A beautiful step up in texture and complexity, when I want Chardonnay with depth, presence, and that unmistakable Burgundy signature.

Saint-Bris Sauvignon Blanc 2023

My first Saint-Bris! Pale lemon yellow color. Plush aromas of citrus fruit, white flowers, chalk and abundant fresh herbs. Flavors of unripe peach, all those savory herbs, green apple and lemon zest. Noticeable mineral backbone on the long and drawn out finish. Lively and crisp acidity. Medium-minus body and wonderful freshness. Vibrant and harmonious! There are Chablis comparisons here. Another example of outstanding white burgundy! — 6 months ago

This 2023 is an affordable “ Brother” of the northern Rhône. All about light bodied freshness and nuance, hints at it s big brothers in Crozes Hermitage. Will be a delightful picnic wine as the warmer weather arrives. Under $20 a bottle. — a year ago

Frei João Bairrada Baga Blend 1985

In beautiful shape, better than I remember the last bottle being. Dried red and black fruits, dry dusty tannins, forest floor, dried porcini mushroom and old leather umami nodes, cedar, dried herbs. Did I mention it’s dry? But it’s a beautiful wine, the flavor profile exudes sun baked warmth but the alcohol clocks in at less than 12% so it doesn’t fatigue the palate — 4 years ago
