Castello di Bossi

Riserva Berardo Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2018

This up-front, fleshy Chianti is drinking really nicely right now. Pretty extroverted nose shows dark, macerated cherry, iodiney minerality, and a little loamy soil. In the mouth it’s pretty full, with a big whack of fruit initially, some tertiary notes developing and becoming apparent in the back half of the palate. Decent acids and still some soft tannin providing some scaffolding. I’d like a bit more linearity and persistence in the finish but for a ‘18 it’s darn nice. — 8 months ago

Castello di Monsanto

Riserva Chianti Classico Sangiovese Blend 2020

Really tasty. Full bodied with medium acidity and medium/high tannins. Plums with hints of blueberry are joined by interesting herbal notes of thyme and sage. Also has a nice earthiness that veers into a touch of just-ground coffee beans accompanying the fruit and herbal flavors on the finish. Really good, and went well with meatball, ricotta, and mushroom pizza. — 2 months ago

@Dave I really enjoyed it. Looking to explore more CC. Didn’t have good experiences in the past with Chianti, but I didn’t know that classico was the subregion to get.

Of the other subregions, there are some really good producers of Chianti Rufina.

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Try this with a filet mignon with a bourbon cream sauce! Superb! Ruby with blackberry, cherry, and plum aromas. Nice spice, acidity, and mild tannins. Smooth with a medium finish. — 7 months ago

Marchesi Antinori

Tenuta Guado al Tasso Bolgheri Vermentino 2024

Has Vermentino fallen out of favour with Italians and is being replaced by a taste for Chardonnay?
Maybe but I don't want to believe it yet.
On hot summer days there is not much more refreshing than a well chilled glass of Vermentino. Chilled is a must - it still has enough oomph in the nose to release its floral essence. Once it comes up to room temp it can be overwhelmingly perfumey IMHO. Good acid balance.
I'm pretty convinced that you can trust anything from Fontori to be a solid choice.

Grattamacco

Bolgheri Superiore Red Blend 2015

Poured into a decanter about 30 minutes prior to service. The 2015 pours a deep garnet color with a near opaque core; medium+ viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and some fine sediment. On the nose, the wine is developing with gorgeous notes of red currants, Morello Cherry, mixed brambles, red and purple flowers, tobacco, black tea, iron rich earth, subtle cool and warm spices. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tannin and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long. This is phenomenal and has me asking myself, “why don’t I seek out more Grattamacco?” Wow. Obviously a winner with lasagna. Drink now with some patience and through 2045. — 3 months ago

Riserva Montesodi Castello di Nipozzano Chianti Rùfina Sangiovese 2012

This ages so well. A balance of mature and fresh: cigars, tomato leaf, eggplant (first time I think I ever said that!), cassis.
Finely structured tannins, the acids have mellowed a little but still very present.
Who knows how long this one could go but it's a great time to drink it now!

Le Macchiole

Bolgheri Rosso SuperTuscan Blend 2017

This is a very punchy, rich wine, likely a blend of Sangiovese with some bordeaux cépages like Cabernet. Actually works very well with rich food and has enough acidity and balance. Not our prime stuff in style but honestly was really good. — 10 months ago

Le Macchiole Bolgheri Rosso blend always over delivers for the price.
Merlot, Cab Franc, Cab Sauvignon and sometimes Syrah added to the blend.
