This is the most iconic barbera in Italy
The story of the label is very curious

Single site hill where a lady had a house.
She was nicknamed "Uccellone" meaning big bird due to her prominent nose that resembled a bird beak. Nonetheless "Uccellone" in italian slang also mean "big penis"...
The local priest was horrified by this label and accused Braida of pushing the boundaries too much. The answer was from him to produce another wine honouring the priest called Bricco della Bigotta(Bigot).

The wine is big, it goes in large oak for 12 months plus 12 months in the bottle before release and needs decanting. Super smooth, super complex, this is a wine for blue cheese or meditation.
It keeps giving you different shade every time you swirl it.
Personally i prefer other style of barbera, but it is a super interesting wine with a lot of history too. — 3 months ago

2021 vintage. A bit of everything. Esteemed producer. Excellent nose. Front-palate richness. Mid-palate power and presence. Pleasantly astringent and beyond substantial finish. I usually eschew Barbera d'Alba for the resto list but couldn't deny this one. Picked up two cases and may pick up more to have laying around for 1.5-2 years. Braida has elevated Barbera to a different standard and it has done it through site selection but also through his iconic style where wines have more layers, elegance and depth.
The Montebruna goes 12 months in large oak barrels and when opened it needs time to stretch its legs.
Only after few hours you'll get the best. 15% in alchol that you don't feel on the palate.

After sending back an oxidized, tired 2020 Rossi di Montalcino, the Somm had the waiter bring back this wine at around the same price point. Don’t sleep on #barberadalba from a great producer. Raspberry, plum, dusty dark fruit nose. So vibrant on the palate with lush yet tangy dark red fruit on the entry, gossamer tannins on the finish. This is very elegant & harmonious.
Dark sour cherry with some crushed stone and a pinch of orange peel & herbs. Fresh. Juicy.
On the palate this is very smooth, juicy, with great flow and beautiful balance. The 14.5% alc perfectly integrated.

The origins of the Damilano family dates back to over a century ago, when Guiseppe Borgogno, the great-grandfather of the current owners, started to grow and make wine from his own grapes. Medium Ruby with aromas of fresh berry fruits and generous spice. On the palate this medium body wine shows flavors of juicy cherry and blackberry with notes of citrus and vanilla spice. Light tannin structure, lively acidity, medium ending with fruit finish. Nice value. Drink now, consistent, no aging benefit. — 2 years ago
