Canon Fronsac, Libournais

Château Fontenil

Fronsac Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

NOSE: Cassis! Elderberry, a little cinnamon, spice box, waxy raisin, a little orange peel. A bit of chocolate. Graphite. Subdued, but smells really good.

TASTE: excellent. Juicy cassis, pretty smooth for a baby wine, a little bit of those warm spices you get on the nose, bitter chocolate and espresso on the finish. Not super complex but really tasty. 92. Suckling was right about this one.

Wow! Big and beautiful. Ripe raspberry, blackberry, black plums, some leather and smoke. Long finish with a perfect balance. I would never know the alcohol is 14.5.. — 10 days ago

Château de la Rivière

Fronsac Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

Opens with these deep, dark plum, black olive and tar notes. Softens with air to blackberry with subtle mint aromas. Round, plush, and fairly one dimensional on the palate with dark black fruits. A little warm but still balanced with acid. Solid QPR, and super interesting nose. Drink now — a month ago

Saint-Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 2003

I rarely disagree by a wide margin with Stephen Tanzer about a rating, but I am going to here (although he rated this wine in 2006 - giving it an 87 - before it much chance to age). This wine is outstanding. It has a lot of plum, currants, black cherries, blueberries, and a hint of mocha. — 18 days ago

Château La Vieille Cure

Fronsac Red Bordeaux Blend 2012

Always a solid bottle but in a double blind and bottle 8 of 8 it was never going to have a fair shake in the line up. Still showed why it’s great QPR. — 5 months ago
