I’ve enjoyed several wines now from the 2021 Mosel vintage, a vintage that I personally adore for its classicism, and its departure from the current trend of warm, dry and short growing seasons in the region. J. J. Prüm’s WSU Spätlese from this overlooked vintage is an absolutely sensational young riesling that, for me, represents a benchmark of what this region (and winery) can produce.
The nose is fresh, clear, like an alpine stream, truly elevating and disarmingly pure scented. A meadow of flowers, freshly squeezed lime, wet stones, petrichor. It is utterly pristine on the palate: sea salt, a medley of tropical fruit slightly underripe, fresh lime, hazelnuts, flecks of lavender. Enormous presence, but huge acidity from this cold, long growing season which, really, is how these wines were always made. A monumental finish that persists for almost a minute.
This is up there with the greatest Mosel wines I’ve ever enjoyed. I’m pretty chuffed to have bought this wine and most of their range in multiple formats in 2021, and I’ll hold on to those for the next forty years! — 8 months ago
Finally on the balcony...
I know I love this wine, so I should exercise patience. On open, it's crystal clean, ruby to pink to clear rim. Nose is evolving from initial raspberry and vanilla to mild petroleum and veggies. What I need patience with is the middle and end. Quite tart and the pucker carries through to the finish. Will update...

2011: all varieties. Meaty, lavender, garden herbs, smoky, but still very vibrant red fruit. Lovely vibrancy of red fruit and all Mouvedre and Grenache aromatics. Sweet fruit, juicy acidity, hot indian spice and liquorice. Plum, cherry, spiced. Quite ready now. — 10 years ago

Medium lemon yellow . Quite high toned , with nutty orange and lemon rind , dried apricot , touch of resin and toasty almonds . On the palate quite rounded with dried orange rind , lemon pith , and toasted almonds finish . High acidity and lots of extract . This is drinking well but will continue at this level for perhaps another 5-10 years . Lots of life yet . — 5 months ago

The nose was dark with woodsy floral tones offset by red berry, leather, hints of clove and star anise. It was soft with silky textures on the palate. Youthful but not tannic with perfectly balanced acidity enlivening flavors of tart cherry, spice, and minerals. The finish showed it's youthful structure with dried red fruits, inner floral tones and hints of cedar. This is beautiful and just entering what is sure to be a long drinking window. — 10 years ago

Really elegant wine. Fruit is black and blue and ripe. Medium + acidity and tannins. Tannins are soft and silky. Lovely long finish. Fantastic wine. — 6 months ago
2014 vintage. Very tight, with that great 2014 acidity that balances the richness of this great vintage. Still a baby, needs many more years, but I can see this becoming one of the legendary Guiraud Sauternes in 10 years time. Conservative score for now. — 9 months ago
Usually not a huge fan of Italian wines, but yeah, have been buying some Sassicaia over the years. As I put away some wines I stumble across this 2012 that should be ready to drink, so I bring it upstairs to decant it. Great nose and typical flavor profiles emerge. Nice acidity and a some background menthol flavors that remind me of some great Chateau Musar vintages. This is a vibrant wine with tannins still strong, but integrated; better on day 2.
Not one of my favorite wines, no surprise, but a solid well-made enjoyable Bordeaux blend — a year ago
Bought on a bit of a whim, this was perfectly fine without a real wow factor. A quite lovely nose of beef stock, strawberry jam and roses, but the palate was undistinguished and acidity overwhelmed any initial fruit. Food is a must and even then it's a bit awkward. — 9 years ago

No formal notes . medium deep ruby , medium bright ruby rim. Quite spicy a little oak noticeable at first . Mixed dark fruits . A bit more round and juicy on the palate , good acidity , slightly grippy but polished tannins . This becomes a bit more restrained and reserved after a while. Served blind , I actually put this as Haut Brion , due to its generous personality, and polished tannins. Overall showed well in the flight was my top wine (though the Cheval Blanc may well be better in absolute terms) . Can be enjoyed now , though has the substance to last a further decade or so, a good showing for the Mouton. — 5 months ago
