An absolutely stunning lunch from @joe leatherwood today. 1 sparkler, 2 whites, 5 reds and 1 dessert wine. All served blind.
In. The. Zone. The first of five mind blowing reds. This, to me, epitomizes first growth version of Bordeaux. In fact, I called this Napa royalty style first growth style. It is dusty and just starting to channel some herbal and leather notes, but the density and purity/softness of the fruit (still quite dark, hint of red fruit), scream older Napa Cab. Added notes of fig, leafy tobacco, and truffled dark cocoa. Wonderful! — 6 years ago
My last 2011 bottle. The estate of Sette Ponti lies in the heart of the Chianti zone, 15 miles northwest of the city of Arezzo, past the village of San Giustino Valdarno. Crognolo, aged in French Allier barriques, deep red with red fruit aromas and sweet perfumed spice. On the palate raspberry and cherry flavors, gentle spice and soft tannins with great mouthfeel. Good balance, lingering finish ending with some oak and mineral tones. Aged well. — 7 years ago
Funky taste to live up to the name, but very good. Wild berries up front and smooth finish. Very pleased. — 10 years ago

OoLaLa got a taste of this beauty. Blend of 39% Syrah, 37% Grenache & 22% Mourvèdre, aged in new French oak. Deep Ruby with aromas of red fruits, floral and spice. On the palate strawberry, plum and black cherry flavors with sweet herbs and exotic rustic spices, well balanced. Long finish with complex fruit, sweet vanilla cedar and mineral ending. Delicious, and a bit on the feminine side with less richness and body as in other editions, which I thought was interesting given the composition. Crowd favorite. — 6 years ago
Everyone’s WOTN. The fruit flavors, while still present, had given way to the tertiary flavors - earth, tobacco, leather, and still a hint of eucalyptus. Such a testament to the vineyard source and winemaking for this still to be going strong after 37 years. Fun way to ring in the New Year. — 7 years ago
Solid South American mountain juice. Good structure and texture. — 10 years ago
Mouton Vertical Dinner. This was paired with the 1890 and everyone loved the aromatics of the 37 displaying cherry, cinnamon, mint, truffle, soy and Chinese 5 spice, developing a curry note at the end. Have had some great 37 Bordeaux and this was one of them. — 10 years ago
Rec. by Paul at Sonoma market. Delicious easy drinking perfect everyday wine. Not too fruity or tannic. — 10 years ago
Annual guys WTF Christmas party with spouses. Lots of great wine. I’ll post my highlights with pics I got.
Absolutely delicious and in the zone! So much depth and complexity on the nose and palate. Smoked brisket and bacon fat, small hint of olive tapenade, baked mixed berry pie, and sandalwood jump from the glass. Didn’t want to put it down! Richly textured on the palate with sweet smoke, espresso, dark cocoa, blueberries, blackberries, and savory peppercorn. So much going on here. Thanks @Bill Makens . — 6 years ago
1990 in the zone. — 6 years ago
Medium gold. Heavy. Rich fruit forward nose. Notes of apricot, flowers, citrus, crushed stone and sea breeze. Rich and powerful in the mouth. Fat. With air, lemon creme and white stone notes dominate the amazing nose. This is in the zone and ready for business now but I would hope this could stay at a great plateau for the next decade. — 7 years ago
(Y) Orig $54; paid $37. First enjoyed with LJ & Lisa the day before I deployed to Afghanistan in July 2010. Good memories good wine. — 9 years ago
A lovely #TGIF Bubbly from @ironhorsevyds Strawberry color with a persistent bead of tiny bubbles and yeasty tart red fruit, dried rose and a hint of mineral aromas. On the palate it shows a moderately creamy mousse with intense cherry, raspberry blood orange flavors. 63% Pinot Noir 37% Chardonnay. 13.5% alcohol — 10 years ago

Thanksgiving cometh, and there’s no more versatile wine at the Thanksgiving table than a fresh, savory, light-bodied red: precisely the reason we chose this wine for this newsletter. In the most northerly and coolest viticultural zone of the Loire valley, Pascal Janvier farms three acres devoted to the indigenous, pale-skinned Pineau d’Aunis. The results are stunning. Medium ruby in color with beautiful orange highlights, Janvier’s Cuvée du Rosier casts fresh aromas of pink peppercorns, cranberries, strawberries and spicy cinnamon. Focused and bright on the palate, the wine fuses tangy raspberry and earthy cranberry fruit with spicy suggestions of Szechuan peppercorns, cinnamon, smoky limestone minerals and an appetizing herbal note reminiscent of agave. Fresh, crunchy and vibrant, the wine grows with aeration and finishes long, tangy and stony. This wine stuns you first with its deliciousness, and then grows and adds complexity with each successive sip. Enjoy this now and over the coming three years with roast turkey and all the trimmings, fresh chèvres, roast duck and grilled or roasted vegetables. - L&E Review — 13 years ago
Mike Saviage

Light to medium gold, heavy and viscous in the glass. Sweet, saline nose. Notes of lemon and citrus fruit, sea shells, tan spice, gravel and a hint of honey. Silky in the mouth. Less acidity than I would expect but it’s there in the background. In a good drinking zone but a bit lacking in emotion. — 5 years ago
