Via del Campo Falanghina 2020

One of my favourite Italian whites - this is made from the Falanghina grape which is the main grape of Campania. Harvested at full ripeness. Fermentation takes place as 70% in stainless steel and 30% in Barrique. See previous note here in April 2025. Not designed for long cellaring. Previous notes still apply. An ideal winter white wine. White flowers, herbal notes with unctuous ripe fruits on the palate. Impossible not to enjoy this. Sadly my last bottle. — a month ago

My first Falanghina was this bottling of the same vintage and I absolutely loved it. I have had several ones from other producers and slowly turned into a fan of the variety. @Bob McDonald

Barolo Nebbiolo 2019

The 2nd bottle of the 2025 smallmouth smackdown. A very baseline Barolo, nothing spectacular. Pairs well with peanut butter M&Ms... — 3 months ago

Argille di Tagghia Via Nero d'Avola 2022

This Vineyard is located on land confiscated from the Mafia.
A hint of blackberries and an aroma of black pepper. A touch of minerals with balanced acidity. Taste of blackberry and a hint of coconut.

Barolo Nebbiolo 2018

A beautiful shock of garnet, this thin and clear Barolo is lovely, but a little more of a bite than I’d hope for this vintage. The aftertaste lingers nicely (with a light woody flavor), but doesn’t have as smooth of a finish as I’d prefer. It’s still a beautiful wine and love that it comes in a 375 ml bottle. — 4 months ago

Il Molino di Grace

SoloSangiovese Chianti Classico Sangiovese 2020

Drinking beautifully now. Nose has macerated wild cherry, and savory minerality. Developing a secondary note of aged, well cared for leather. Rather full in the mouth. Deep fruit and a lengthy, minerally gravel-laced finish. Medium acids are kind of sneaky, coming on as the finish extends. Still some very soft tannin present. Lots of character for the money.

UPDATE: Night 2, nose is now showing a crushed rosemary leaf note

Just had one. Lovely. Guess I won’t be experiencing the crushed rosemary.

9.1

Concur with the WS review below, although I dropped my score one point and would add that the wine presently requires hours of natural aeration—no less than four in the bottle! We tested the use of a Vinturi, which produced unsatisfactory results. Perhaps decanting would take less time. Paired with pistachio crusted rack of lamb.

WS: 92. A fragrant and elegant red, delivering tuberose, strawberry, cherry and grassy aromas and flavors. Taut and balanced, with bright floral and red fruit notes gracing the lingering finish. Best from 2024 through 2038. 375 cases made, 150 cases imported.

Il Molino di Grace

Riserva Chianti Classico Sangiovese 2021

Seems like a great classic representation of a Chianti. Cherry, Dusty, various baking spices. Interesting enough when it first opened there is definitely a caramel or a burnt sugar going on there, but it faded within the first 5 to 10 minutes. After that it settled down to Fruit forward without any bad tannins or anything else, but still not flabby. Delicious and went very well with our pasta. — 2 months ago

Leradici Barbera d'Asti 2021

2021 vintage. QPR off the charts. $13.43 a bottle resto cost. Ridiculously good at that price. Medium body with spice, fruit and structure. Too inexpensive for me to exploit but perhaps someone else can? If I see this in the wild, pouncing on all fours. 04.09.25. — 5 months ago
