Sta. Rita Hills Chardonnay 2019

I think this is the estate Chardonnay vs. the st. Rita hills. Somewhat confusing. Anyway this is amazing right now. Nose of cream, lemon, peach. Palate is coated by creaminess, lemon and orange galore, stone fruit, nectarine mostly, there’s a salinity that’s so nice. It definitely gets into sea water and lemongrass at the end, but this is overall a more creamy and brioche wine. So complex. One of my favorite chards in recent memory. — 2 months ago

Kongsgaard

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2005

2005 vintage. Decanted and tasted over the course of two hours. Good fill, great cork. Perfect picture show sed. Vibrant color and nose. A modicum of richness up front initially but not to return. Medium body dropped down to light medium body. Thinning out meant slightly more acidity. That wasn't exactly undesirable. Currently tasting like a Napa version of LLC St. Julien (non-mountain terroir lean and mean). As it stands, will hold fast in this presentation for another 5 years. Not improving and feel it's goin' south after that 5-spot. 12.10.23. — 5 months ago

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1986

FLN — The sexiest/prettiest of the three 1986s we had, showing violets and complex, layered fruit framed ever so slightly in some softening tannins, way closer to being ready than the LLC, group favorite but I’m giving a little more to the LLC to its immense additional potential. — a year ago

Not bad. Good price. Little sugary for a 9+. — 2 months ago

Bulgaria Red Blend 2014

Still great. I was wondering if it would hold 10 years after release, and it’s a hint more rusty, but the flavor has even more of that complex ‘old-wine’ stuff in it. — 3 months ago

Château Belair

St. Émilion Red Bordeaux Blend 1955

Night two at Bern’s. A backup bottle to replace the 1907 LLC that had a flaw. Went with this choice for its high shoulder fill and great color. Light tawny reddish color. Clear rims with a deep color center in the glass. Fruit forward nose with notes of black and red fruit, some earth and some wood. With air it opened like the others. Decent structure. Good balance. Nice, solid wine for its age but nothing dramatic or exciting. — a year ago

Château Léoville-Las Cases

Grand Vin de Leoville du Marquis de las Cases Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 1975

This 49 years old LLC was in the first sniff a bit dull, but then miraculously this grand master of BDX stood up and showed its pure class. Ok it’s not a young bastard but what a pleasure to drink with friends. — 3 months ago
