Segromigno Dry Creek Valley Sangiovese Montepulciano 2014

Not much of a nose remaining but great balance, dusty fruit, cloves, nice on the mid palate. Good long finish. — 7 months ago

Fattoria Galardi

Terra di Lavoro Campania Red Blend 2007

Opened and decanted 2.5 hours in advance of our inaugural Aglianco Osso Buco wine dinner here at the Gotham

Facing off against a range of Aglianco from Unti in Sonoma Leonetti in WA and Galardi 2010 in Campania

The 2007 Galardi came across with olives, gaminess and herbs in the nose but once tasted showed a certain finesse and smoothness that was great. This was right up there as the savory wine of the night.

Dry Creek Valley Aglianico

Excellent expression of aglianco with some bright fruits from Sonoma matched with the griping tannins and strong backbone of this grape. Wife says this tasted like one of those super expensive wines — 2 years ago

Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel 2021

75% Zinfandel, 20% petite Syrah, 5% barbera. Pepper on the nose that precedes a sharp tang of dark fruit. Smoke, figs and wood follow on a layer of acidic tannins. Probably needs more time to mellow if I had more patience…. — 9 months ago

Serra Pedace Vineyard Aglianico 2018

Opened and decanted 2.5 hours in advance of our inaugural Aglianco Osso Buco wine dinner here at the Gotham

Facing off against a range of Aglianco from Unti in Sonoma and Galardi in Campania

The Leonetti was the youngest of the 4 bottles yet had the most alluring combination of fruit and density. Definitely a crowd pleaser. Easy to drink with or without the food.

Colli di Lapio Fiano di Avellino Fiano 2013

Best in class Fiano, non-Unti division. Haven’t had an old white in a while and there’s something about the taste that just draws me in. This tastes old, in a good way. Dusty. Lemon zest and dried apricot. Full-bodied but still crisp. Straw color, higher ABV for sure. Tasting notes in collaboration with @Caroline Graham — 5 years ago

Amphora

Dry Creek Valley Syrah 1999

This is actually the Unti Vineyard Syrah. Meaty, leathery, old Syrah aromas with a healthy dose of brett that adds some nice complexity, medium-long finish, very good. — 6 years ago

Amphora

Unti Vineyard Syrah 1999

Dry Creek Syrah, so still predictably pretty ripe and rich (14.5% ABV), fruit still shows a lot of primary redfruits, berry/cherry, not as tannic as in its youth, some leathery notes (low-level Brett, I’d guess) emerge with aeration, long, lingering kick-ass finish, Rick made some pretty amazing wines under this label starting in 1998. (125 cases made, purchased on release.) — a year ago

Fattoria Galardi

Terra di Lavoro Roccamonfina Aglianico Piedirosso 2010

Opened and decanted 2.5 hours in advance of our inaugural Aglianco Osso Buco wine dinner here at the Gotham

Facing off against a range of Aglianco from Unti in Sonoma, Leonetti in WA and Galardi 2007 in Campania

The 2010 Galardi was the most dense and as with the 2007, the fruit was minimal. Instead the flavor profile is herbs, green olives and incredible savory notes. It worked incredibly well with the osso buco and needed the richness to shine. This wine still had a bit of hard edges and could use more bottle age IMO

Bianco del Campo 2021

A brilliant CalItal (yes, I said it) blend of Vermentino, Falanghina, Biancolella and Fiano from one of the kings of CalItal (Unti).

Fragrant (lemon ice, lemon verbena) and oh so refreshing (yellow flowers, fresh white melon). Delivers way more elegance and length than you’d expect from a simple porch wine.
