The Charter

Buffallo Trace Distillery

Old Charter Oak French Oak Barrel Aged Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey 2021

Forgot I had this. Very similar to Eagle Rare, most likely the same mashbill. A little bit higher proof, though. It's like Buffalo Trace with a little extra everything. — 11 days ago

Proprietor's Reserve Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey

This is an very old purchase that I’m finally finishing off. It’s not high proof and so is an easy drinker and I think does well in an old fashioned — 2 years ago

Cirq

Treehouse Vineyard Pinot Noir 2013

Outstanding example of how a little age on the right wine can pay dividends. Seven years ago this wine was very good but hard to distinguish from other Kosta Brown vineyards. Today it has acquired charter comparable to a fine burgundy. Very pleased! — 12 days ago

Sami-Odi

Little Wine #12 Syrah

Shay A
9.4

Brought out to Napa during our annual trip. While at Charter Oak, I saw another bottle of SamiOdi on a table and when I went to introduce myself to the gentlemen enjoying the wine, it ended up being Tegan Passalacqua! Small world.

An unvintaged assemblage composed of casks from 2022 (49%), 2021 (23%), 2020 (11%), 2019 (8%), 2018 (1%), 2017 (4%), 2016 (2%) & 2015 (2%).

Followed over a few days. Aromatics remained unchanged (still one of, if not my favorite wine to smell) with intoxicating dark florals, high-toned blue and black berries, cassis, plum and sweet espresso. Good bit of tannin the first day but beautifully smooth on the last day. A bit more compact core of dark rich fruits here than previous editions with menthol as well. As usual for Fraser’s SamiOdi wines, these sport Aussie fruit without going too hot or the punch from oak. Fresh and bright, yet powerful. Love it, as always.

Ok @Shay A I need to try these again. Have a couple SamiOdi wines I’ve held. I am also wondering if Tegan ever lived in the Bay Area since my favorite teacher was Ms Passalacqua in 6th grade… Could it be his mother? No idea how common a name.

K Vintners

Rock Garden Syrah 2012

Tasted blind: Dried tobacco, dried cranberry, blackcherry, clove, leather, and tar This turns oxidative with a short glass decant (open in bottle for a few hours). Shows Madeira like charter, think burnt sugar and tar. Baking and anise spice notes on the palate. Medium minus tannin. Still very acidic. Carmel and cherry jubilee leas on a rich and reduced finish, with secondary vanilla and clove flavors hinting a at and oak presence. Blown away by the layers, depth and evolution here. Suspected older Rioja. — 4 years ago
