Château German Marbuzet

St. Estèphe Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2010

The driest of the dry tannin wine from left bank, south of the Gironde, Bordeaux: Saint Estephe. What is it with these wines from this region? Narrow, yet so succulently rich. Deep dry dark mineral fruit that puts you in a spell .... a thirst for more...but there isn't more.....Had to share it with my wife. — 8 years ago

This is the most delicious young red wine that I have had in a long time. This open Vosne, loaded with dark fruit aromatics and flavors had me under its spell immediately. It had ripeness and texture to go along with all of the Burgundian intangibles. Will one case be enough? — 8 years ago

Final bottle from the Spell Estate is their Chardonnay from the Dutton Sullivan Vineyard. Clear yellow with a hint of gold and some green. Very tight initially. Finally after a few hours there were some white fruits, light tropical and citrus notes. A bit of honeysuckle too. Very refreshing with a creamy texture. Moderate acidity (6.5/10) with some green apples, citrus and cooked pears. A little zesty too. Light bodied and long finish. Drink till 2020. — 9 years ago

@Andrew Berge how would you compare the la Pitchoune and Spell bottling of Van der Kamp vyd stylistically? Looks like you had then side by side?
Andrew Berge

Andrew Berge

They are a different vintage so its not a fair comparison. But essentially i am picking it less ripe than the spell wines, using different and less oak than the spell. The vineyards character still comes through with its savory smoked meat component, it is a bit more floral than the spell.

Martoccia di Brunelli Luca

Rosso di Montalcino Sangiovese

Usually when I taste rosso di montalcino, I just want it to be brunello. This is different: it clearly shows Montalcino terroir but has its own voice and complexity with ripened cherries from the warm Montalcino sun supported with with spicy sweet Tuscan underbrush, as though we were hiking in the fall during a spell of Indian summer. — 10 years ago
