Chateau Montelena

The Montelena Estate Calistoga Cabernet Sauvignon 2004

Cork pulled a couple hours in advance and allowed to slow-ox. The color is deep garnet with a near opaque core and perhaps some slight browning towards the rim but color looks great. There’s significant sediment now. Powerful aromas of black currants, dark cherries, tobacco, green pepper, and baking spices. On the palate, the structure is still pretty sturdy even though the tannins have integrated well. The fruit is ripe and quite delicious and taking on some secondary notes of leather, mushrooms and decomposed earth. The acid giving the wine the lift and energy necessary at 18 years old. A lovely wine that, while at peak, has quite a bit of good life left in it. Drink before 2029. — 2 years ago

Château Latour

Premier Grand Cru Classé Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 2005

Delectable Wine
9.8

The 2005 Latour is a huge wine predestined for long-term aging. Noticeably deep in color, it has a showstopping bouquet with intense black fruit, graphite and touches of dried blood and tobacco as it considers moving into its secondary phase. But that's going to be slow coming...it's in no hurry. The palate is medium-bodied and unapologetically classic in style. I notice this bottle is a little grainy in texture, the salinity perhaps heightened as it enters adulthood. The finish has a tangible sense of tension, but it remains backward and swarthy. Immense. Tasted at Woo Cheong Tea House dinner organized by Paulo Pong. (Neal Martin, Vinous, February 2024)

Viña Tondonia Rioja Rosé Blend 2010

This is not your beach quaff rose. Everything written by the other reviewers on this site is true and more. A singular, incredibly complex wine the deserves the hype. Next bottles get several hours of slow ox. — 2 years ago

Sauvignon Blanc 2020

bright, zesty & sour medium-bodied orange with some lime, dill & pear flavors. it paired perfectly with my cajun charcuterie board. this pairing might’ve converted me orange wines as my signature for cajun/creole cuisine. we’ll see. — 2 years ago

Château Mouton Rothschild

Pauillac Red Bordeaux Blend 1988

Boxing day treat with the wife. Pretty much the quintessential "claret." Maybe slightly faded now and on a slow path away from excellent but still lots to enjoy and i love drinking a wine with some history! Had the Lafite from the same vintage and that was slightly more my taste. Paired amazing with roast pheasant. — 4 months ago
