Really nice surprise here, and needed a long decant to open up despite 15 years of sleep! Assertive and rich while avoiding any sharp edges, long finish. Unclear this will get better, but matched up nicely with rare filet. I’d decant for an hour and drink up. — 7 years ago
One of the best tempranillos I have had. Sharp and delicious... need to get another one for our bar — 9 years ago
10 year lees contact is what really makes this one stand out. Sharp with a classic custard palate filled with notes of overripe apple and toast. — 9 years ago
Light yellow straw color, youthful. Razor sharp nose with lemon, pit fruit and river stone notes. Great balance of fruit and acidity in the mouth. Got better with 5 hrs of air. Long finish. No signs of premox, a great showing. — 9 years ago
Clean, crisp white wine. Lightly sweet, citrus aromas, not too sharp. Perfect for summer, has to be well chilled. — 10 years ago
Razor sharp. Pure and detailed. Beautiful stuff — 10 years ago
Still a bit young. Strong fruit, quite sharp tannins but a very long wine — 12 years ago
As long as its been since I’ve had a bottle of the Clos Mogador Nelin and much as I love it, with the heat, I’ve been looking forward to a glass of BSR all day. It never disappoints!!!
Always so fresh, consistent and delicious. The delicate pink rose petals, lean fruits of; strawberries, cherries, black cherries, less ripened watermelon, tangerine & touch of ripe peach. Medium intensity of volcanic minerals, sea shells/spray, razor sharp, smooth, grainy, chalkiness, beautiful acidity and long, rich, lush finish that goes on & on. — 7 years ago
2012, buttery popcorn, lemon grass, sharp acidity — 7 years ago
A bright and vivid nose with lime, slate and fruitiness. On the palate, lean and sharp. Focused minerality and sweetness. Lovely stuff — 8 years ago
Very viscous. Almost oily but balanced by razor sharp acidity. Full weight of vintage. Lime, wet grass, guava, rocky element. Qg. — 8 years ago
Sharp, refined. Lovely — 10 years ago
2001 vintage. Strong minerality and acidity, giving it a sharp finish. — 10 years ago
Great acidity, sharp, tons of stone fruits at first, plenty of grapefruit and blood orange. — 12 years ago
Smells funky, musty, but also fruity Charles says vanilla. Pretty sweet, complex flavors, kind of honeyed. Kind of sharp at the back roof of mouth. Tastes the way it smells. Charles says vanilla and Graham cracker, nutty and roasted. — 7 years ago
Bruised red & green apple, bruised pear, pineapple, lemon pulp, touch of butterscotch & honey, English biscuits, grainy sharp chalkiness & limestone, flintiness, good crisp acidity, polished finish with strong sticky chalk and minerals doesn't let your tongue go. Paired very well the fresh burrata, prosciutto, baby arugula & Calabrian chile honey on crostini. 375ml — 8 years ago
Blanc de Blancs, no dose, l'Eclapart. Wine geek trifecta. Nose is a symphony, wet earth, mineral, salty, tree bark? Fascinating aromas. Palate is dry, forceful, yeasty and tangy. Long and intense. Concentrated and intense.
Day 2 Update - Yeasty somewhat broad and mineral nose. Some brioche as well. Nice. Palate is razor sharp with terrific precision and minerality. Really lovey delineation of flavors. Great. Delicate and complex yet forcefully dry. Incredible. — 9 years ago
1982 Lopez de Heredia Rioja. Drank at Red O. Interesting. When we first poured this, we thought it might have been stored incorrectly- funky, sharp nose and super short finish. The wine changed markedly in the following minutes and was phenomenal for the next hour. Ultimately, the wine went flat, but it was super mild and pleasant to drink through dinner. Surprised that there was still a bit of fruit on the nose, pencil shavings, and tons of funky earthy notes. — 10 years ago
Vibrant citrus fruit flavors without any apparent sweet mouth feel. Razor sharp finish that lasts. It is hard to describe such a dry mouth feel accompanying such strong fruit flavors with the sharp finish. If blinded I might think it was a still Alsace cremant!!??!! I really love this wine. — 10 years ago
Wedding wine brand - walker bay near Hermanus, not too sharp — 12 years ago
Delectable Wine

I can’t think of a better wine to finish with than the 1980 Cristal. Utterly dazzling from the very first taste, the 1980 is simply breathtaking. Citrus, chamomile, mint, white pepper, crushed rock and expressive floral notes abound, with razor sharp beams of supporting chalkiness that give the wine tension and energy. Tiny yields and strict selection resulted in a very small production that Roederer chose to bottle only in magnum. There is just not much else to say except that the 1980 is a riveting, arrestingly beautiful wine that remains as a vivid testament to a previous era in the history of Champagne.
