Very nice white wine — 5 years ago
I’m really beginning to see this transition where the 2013s-16s of Rhône and Burgundy are already so drinkable and showing ripe fruit. Like they are making them to drink now, this winemaking style is showing a little more fruit extraction and from what I’ve seen here in Napa, you’re sacrificing the ability to age there for the early drinkability. Hopefully I’m wrong and these are all just warmer vintages. I just wanna see these wines reach their potential 10/20 years out — 7 years ago
2016 vintage on Dec 17, 2017 ($18 at Vinopolis). Made from 3 hectares of vines planted in the 1930s. Brisk, sharp and a bit austere. Not as much minerality as expected. Great effort in a difficult vintage. Will be interesting to see how it evolves. — 8 years ago
Showing the best of this tasting so far. Lots of green vine though. I'd like to see riper, less-green fruit. — 8 years ago
The 2021 Saint-Joseph used roughly 50% whole-clusters during fermentation. In comparison, 2022 saw 85% inclusion, while in 2017, no destemming was applied. Coming in at 12.5% alcohol, the deep purple-hued 2021 unfurls with pretty red fruits paired with leafy undertones and cedar. Orange blossom and rose petal add welcome floral lift. Light to medium in body, this is a delicate Gonon, neatly framed by velvety tannins and bright acidity. It should drink well right out of the gate. Tasted twice with consistent notes. Palate- Peach, pear, pineapple undertones., honeysuckle, a touch of slate & spices. Power & elegance. Floats across the palate seamlessly.
The balance of this is extraordinary. Highly recommended. Christmas in July. A gift from @Ron R Thank you again my very good friend. Miss you & hope to see you soon. — 5 years ago
Past it’s best for a few years now, but still very interesting to taste and absolutely not completely gone.
Garnet colour. On the nose as expected a lot of tertiary aroma’s like tobacco, coffee, ceder, chocolate, meaty, smoke, leather, mushrooms, earth, caramel and balsamic. On the palate it is confirmed that the fruit has faded and so have the tanins. This make the wine a bit thin and structureless, like you see often with wines if this age. Great experience! — 7 years ago
Both me and the girl enter our 40th year in 2018, so we are celebrating a couple of days early with the oldest champagne we've ever had. Special is an understatement. Tastes like I'm butt naked, face down in a seafood tower on the top of the Empire State Building, waiting on a helicopter to come take us to Waffle House to sober up before we get in a Ferrari to see a 35mm print of E.T. Endless thanks to @Christian Moses for this bottle. Will remember it for a long time to come. ❤🥂 Happy New Years Friends — 8 years ago
Very intense. Powerful gunpowder, flint, lime. A dazzling and broad midpalate. Really juicy and focused with none of the over-ripeness you sometimes see in 05. Killer. No signs of premox and will probably kick ass in 20 years on this showing. — 8 years ago
My first bottle of the ‘16. This is drinking really well right now, and I can’t wait to see it in 10 years. Fruit is ripe, tannins are tight but approachable. Black and red fruit. Acidity still strong but also approachable. Overall well structured and integrated. Just gonna get better with time, but like I said, it can be pnp, but with patience it’ll be fantastic. I agree with WS 95 rating. — 2 years ago
Decanted over several hours. Lots of sediment. Cork was intact but soaked. Delicious and a bit sweet on first pour. Opened more over next hour. Deep color but not opaque. Could see through barely to bottom and lightened to the edges. Cedar cassis and black fruit. Quite smooth and refined. The reverberating finish lasted and repeated. Thoroughly enjoyed over five hours and it only improved with each hour. This was excellent. — 2 years ago
I was given this bottle at a milestone birthday 10 years ago and drank it to celebrate another milestone birthday. Given that I rarely have the patience to wait for my wine to arrive at its next place, I was really looking forward to having this one. It was terrific. Deep integrated flavors and a softening tannin structure that has given way to a deeply satisfying experience. Very much enjoyed this and can see why this wine gets high marks year in and year out. — 5 years ago
Bring on fall! This one was singing tonight. Strawberry with black pepper and kirsch, all laid on top of some elegant mineralogy. I probably won't sit on my other bottles too long since I don't see this one having much long term aging potential, but it sure was a treat for the first weekend of fall! — 8 years ago
Dark color, earthy, dark cherries and a bit of licorice (??). Silky smooth. Would drink again in several years to see how it continues to develop. — 8 years ago

Served alongside beef short rib, xo sauce, pickled mustard seed, cumin stir-fried asparagus. Yes, the 2003 Dominus is big. However, it is also balanced and showing classic Napa typicity with beautifully ripe and some slightly wizened black and red fruit, tobacco, cocoa, some purple flowers and baking spices. I found this to be quite balanced after all the air it saw. Wonderful structure for continued aging as well. Drink now through 2043. — 10 months ago
