Going to be a heretic and say I didn't love this. 🤷‍♂️

Now that I've spent some time with this wine...I'm so enraptured by it. Absolutely the height of what California wine can do. Graphite, mint, herbaceous, mulling spices, anise, licorice. Tannins still incredibly powerful. Linear on the palate, giving a complete and unique vision. I simply cannot imagine a better wine.

Vertical: tannins mostly resolved. Old fruit on the nose, dusty, dried vanilla mid palate. Complex and some people would say at the height of it's game. I preferred the 05 with more backbone.

The best of the vertical. Tannins still gripping the back end, mint, forest floor. Tremendous elegance with a youthful ferocity remaining. Just amazing.

Very young - this is wine for the cellar. Dark spice, hints of green herbs. The nose is like walking into a Chinese herb shop. Crushed chalk. Plum skins. Texture is very smooth with deep hints of baking chocolate dusting. This is quite the thoroughbred Cabernet: Elegant, Pure, Pristine, and Powerful. $175 at winery.

For me, it’s always hard to tell exactly where a Wine will go. I’ve had old Monte Bello, and new Monte Bello, and the old is an intense, elegant, extraordinarily complex experience. This new vintage is utterly fantastic. It’s so complex with this steely minerality, spice, flowers, elegant refined tannins, burnt cedar and new American oak. But it’s such a baby. I’ve read this has a lifespan of 30-50 years, and I can believe it.

Tannic as hell! Restraint, concentrated, bursting earth and wild flavors. Total baby but still approachable.

Way more easily drinkable than expected. Very smooth and complex at the same time. Yet still light and fruity. Was awesome on its own.
